25 Out 🇧🇷 Liturgia Diária / Oct 25 🇺🇸 Daily Liturgy

Amar a Deus e ao próximo.
Love God and neighbor.

1a.Leitura
– Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading the book of Exodus 22,20-26 - Thus says the Lord: 20 Do not oppress or mistreat the stranger, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. 21 Do not harm the widow or the fatherless. 22If they are mistreated, they will cry out for me and I will hear their cry. 23My anger will then ignite and I will kill you with the sword; Your wives will be widowed, and your children orphaned. 24If you lend money to someone from my people, to a poor man who lives next to you, don't be a usurer, charging him interest. 25If you take your neighbor's cloak as a pledge, you must return it before sunset. 26 For it is the only garment he has for his body, and the covering he has for sleeping. If you cry out for me, I will listen to you, because I am merciful. - Word of the Lord.

Salmo 17/18
Eu vos amo, ó Senhor, sois minha força e salvação.
1. Eu vos amo, ó Senhor! Sois minha força, / minha rocha, meu refúgio e salvador! / Ó meu Deus, sois o rochedo que me abriga, / minha força e poderosa salvação.
Invocarei o meu Senhor: a ele a glória! / E dos meus perseguidores serei salvo!
3. Viva o Senhor! Bendito seja o meu rochedo! / E louvado seja Deus, meu salvador! / Concedeis ao vosso rei grandes vitórias / e mostrais misericórdia ao vosso ungido.

Psalm 17/18
I love you, O Lord, you are my strength and salvation.
1. I love you, O Lord! You are my strength, / my rock, my refuge and savior! / O my God, you are the rock that shelters me, / my strength and mighty salvation.
2. O my God, you are the rock that shelters me, / you are my shield and protection: in you I hope! / I will call on my Lord: glory to him! / And from my pursuers I will be saved!
3. Long live the Lord! Blessed be my rock! / And praise be to God, my savior! / You grant your king great victories / and show mercy to your anointed one.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 22,34-40 - At that time, the Pharisees heard that Jesus had shut up the Sadducees. Then they met in group 35 and one of them asked Jesus, to try it out: 36 “Master, what is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37Jesus replied, “‘ You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your understanding! ’38This is the greatest and the first commandment. 39The second is similar to this: 'You will love your neighbor as yourself'. 40All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commandments ”. - Word of salvation.

To think about
We do not know the reason for such an elementary question as the one asked by the Pharisees to Jesus: "What is the greatest commandment?" Any teenager who was attending school knew the first commandment, inscribed in the book of Deuteronomy (6: 4-5). It is the famous "listen, Israel", which the Jews repeat daily. So the question was not at all difficult for Jesus. The novelty in his response was that he added a second commandment to the first. It all comes down to this: love of God above all and of neighbor as yourself. It was very common among rabbis to discuss a subject in order to test the wisdom of both. Therefore, Jesus' proposal seems to be clear: the best and most concrete way to love God is to love your neighbor. The first love passes through the second. The Master rescues a commandment perhaps half forgotten: love of neighbor (cf. Lev 19,18). These commandments are the basis and center of all Scripture.

To Pray
O Jesus, Master of patience, although the question comes with a certain amount of provocation, you clarify and define what are the main commandments of the Law.
