18 Out: Bom Dia 🇧🇷 Liturgia Diária / Oct 18: Good Morning 🇺🇸 Daily Liturgy

Dai a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus.
Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's.

1a.Leitura
– Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading from the book of the prophet Isaiah 45,1.4-6 - 1This is what the Lord says about Cyrus, his anointed one: not to let the gates lock. 4Because of my servant Jacob and my chosen Israel, I called you by name; I booked you, and you didn't recognize me. 5I am the Lord, there is no other: outside of me there is no god. I armed you as a warrior, without recognizing myself, 6 so that everyone may know, from east to west, that outside of me there is no other. I am the Lord, there is no other ”. - Word of the Lord.

Salmo 95/96

Psalm 95/96
O family of nations, give the Lord power and glory!
1. Sing to the Lord God a new song, / sing to the Lord God, O whole earth! / Show your glory among the nations / and, among the peoples of the universe, your wonders!
2. For God is great and very praiseworthy, / he is more terrible and greater than the other gods, / because nothing is the gods of the pagans. / It was the Lord and our God who made the heavens.
3. O family of nations, give to the Lord, / O nations, give the Lord power and glory, / give him the glory that is due to his name! / Offer a sacrifice in your courts.
4. Worship him in the splendor of holiness, / whole earth, tremble before him! / Publish among the nations: "The Lord reigns!", / For the peoples he judges justly.

Evangelho
19Mostrai-me a moeda do imposto!” Levaram-lhe então a moeda. 20E Jesus disse: “De quem é a figura e a inscrição desta moeda?” 21Eles responderam: “De César”. Jesus então lhes disse: “Dai, pois, a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 22,15-21 - At that time, the 15th Pharisees made a plan to catch Jesus in some word. 16Then they sent their disciples, along with some from Herod's party, to say to Jesus: “Teacher, we know that you are true and that, in fact, you are teaching the way of God. You are not influenced by the opinion of others, because you do not judge a man by appearances. 17 Tell us, then, what you think: is it lawful or not to pay tax to Caesar? ” 18Jesus realized their wickedness and said: “Hypocrites! Why are you setting a trap for me? 19Show me the tax coin! ” Then they took the coin from him. 20And Jesus said, “Whose figure and inscription is this coin on?” 21They replied, "From Caesar." Jesus then said to them, "Give therefore to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's." - Word of salvation.

Tudo a Deus pertence.

To think about
Jesus' opponents come to him and, after fawning over him with praise, pose the challenging question: whether or not to pay tax to Caesar? The tax on Caesar was yet another tax levied by the Roman Empire. Furthermore, the controversy was not just an economic debate, but involved a "question of faith". Paying taxes to the emperor was to recognize the "god Caesar", in contrast to the God of Jesus, and to legitimize servitude. The Master understood perfectly their hypocrisy and what they wanted to get to. Jesus' response - to give Caesar what is his and to God what belongs to him - shows that it is not lawful for Caesar to take God's place and name. Everything belongs to God. We also cannot use this text to justify taxes, taxes and two different realities (Church and State). We cannot worship God and “Caesar”, nor can we deny God's rights over the people who belong to him and are his greatest and best property.
