No prophet is well received in his country..

Evangelho
17Deram-lhe o livro do profeta Isaías.

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 4, 16-30 - At that time, Jesus came to the city of Nazareth, where he had been raised. As per his custom, he entered the synagogue on Saturday and got up to read. 17 They gave him the book of the prophet Isaiah. Opening the book, Jesus found the passage in which it is written: 18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he consecrated me with the anointing to announce the Good News to the poor; he sent me to proclaim liberation for the captives and the blind to recover their sight; to free the oppressed 19 and to proclaim a year of the Lord's grace ”. 20Then he closed the book, handed it to the assistant, and sat down. Everyone in the synagogue had their eyes fixed on him. 21Then he began to say to them, "Today this passage of Scripture that you have just heard has been fulfilled." 22Everyone testified about him, astonished by the words full of charm that came out of his mouth. And they said, "Isn't this Joseph's son?" 23Jesus, however, said: “Without a doubt, you will repeat the proverb to me: Doctor, heal yourself. Do also here, in your land, everything we hear you did in Capernaum ”. 24E added: “Truly, I say to you, no prophet is well received in his country. 25 In fact, I tell you, at the time of the prophet Elijah, when it did not rain for three years and six months and there was great famine throughout the region, there were many widows in Israel. 26Nevertheless, none of them was sent Elias, except to a widow who lived in Sarepta, in Sidonia. 27And in the time of the prophet Elisha there were many lepers in Israel. However, none of them were healed, but Naaman the Syrian ”. 28When they heard these words from Jesus, everyone in the synagogue was furious. 29 They got up and drove him out of the city. They took him to the top of the hill on which the city was built, with the intention of throwing him over the precipice. 30Jesus, passing through them, continued on his way. - Word of salvation.

To think about
In the synagogue in Nazareth, Jesus reads the passage from Isaiah 61: 1-2. It is a portrait of the Messiah and his liberating mission. Everything went smoothly, until Jesus surprised everyone by applying to himself what he had just read: “Today that passage of Scripture has been fulfilled”. There were whispers and comments. Some were "amazed" by his words full of grace. However, Jesus feels that many fellow citizens do not accept him as Messiah. It arouses the indignation of many in the assembly, who, driven by uncontrolled fury, try to throw him over the edge. Jesus escapes unscathed. His mission is outlined: he will win crowds for the Kingdom of God, but he will be accompanied by the inseparable shadow of persecution.

Tome a sua cruz e me siga.
Take up his cross and follow me.

Evangelho

Gospel
Day of the Catechist - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 16,21-27 - At that time, 21Jesus began to show his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer a lot from the elders, the high priests and the teachers of the Law and who was to be killed and resurrected on the third day. 22Then Peter took Jesus aside and began to rebuke him, saying: “God do not allow such a thing, Lord! May it never happen to you! ” 23Jesus, however, turned to Peter and said: “Go away, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me, because you do not think the things of God, but the things of men! ” 24Then Jesus said to the disciples: “If anyone wants to follow me, renounce himself, take up his cross and follow me. 25For anyone who wants to save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life because of me will find it. 26So what good is it for a man to gain the whole world, but to lose his life? What can someone give in exchange for their life? 27For the Son of Man will come in the glory of his Father, with his angels, and then he will repay each one according to his conduct ”. - Word of salvation.

To think about
Jesus speaks of his tragic fate in Jerusalem and invites anyone who has the courage to follow him. Peter, therefore, seeks to divert Jesus from his project, but the master does not want to sacrifice anyone, but says: whoever wants to follow him will have to renounce himself.

Congratulations on your day. God bless your vocation. According to the Directory for Catechesis, it must not be forgotten that each stage of life is exposed to specific challenges and must face the ever new dynamics of the Christian vocation. 225. Therefore, it is reasonable to offer catechesis paths that are diversified based on the different needs, ages of the subjects and state of life. Therefore, it is essential to respect the anthropological, evolutionary and theological-pastoral data, taking into account the educational sciences. Martírio de João Batista.
Martyrdom of John the Baptist.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 6,17-29 - At that time, 17Herod had ordered John to be arrested and chained to prison. He did this because of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, with whom he had married. 18John said to Herod, "You are not allowed to be with your brother's wife." 19 So Herodias hated him and wanted to kill him, but he couldn't. 20 Indeed, Herod was afraid of John, for he knew that he was just and holy, and that is why he protected him. He liked to hear it, although he was embarrassed when he heard it. 21Finally, the opportune day came. It was Herod's birthday, and he made a great feast for the great court, the officials, and the important citizens of Galilee. 22 Herodias' daughter came in and danced, pleasing Herod and his guests. Then the king said to the girl: "Ask me for what you want and I will give it to you". 23And he swore to her, saying, "I will give you whatever you ask of me, even if it is half of my kingdom." 24She went out and asked her mother, "What am I going to ask for?" The mother replied: "The head of John the Baptist". 25And, returning quickly to the king, he asked: "I want you to give me the head of John the Baptist on a plate now." The king was very sad, but he could not refuse. He had taken the oath before the guests. 27 Immediately, the king ordered a soldier to fetch John's head. The soldier went out, slaughtered him in prison, 28threw his head on a plate and gave it to the girl. She gave it to her mother. 29 Upon learning of this, John's disciples went there, took the corpse and buried it. - Word of salvation.

To think about
John the Baptist dies beheaded by order of Herod. The episode takes place in the fortress of Maqueronte, east of the Dead Sea. The celebration of the martyrdom of St. John the Baptist has ancient origins (5th century in France; 6th century in Rome). It is linked to the dedication of the church built in Sebaste, in Samaria, on the supposed tomb of the Precursor of Christ. His martyrdom takes place during a banquet that Herod had offered "to his tycoons, officials and the great personalities of Galilee". On this occasion, the king does the whims of the daughter of Herodias, who asks for the head of John. The daughter is as senseless as the mother is evil and merciless. The prophet is gone, but his testimony of faithfulness to God remains forever.

For catechists - Directory for Catechesis
224. Every baptized person, called to the maturity of faith, has the right to an adequate catechesis. Therefore, it is the Church's task to give a satisfactory answer to this right. The Gospel is not intended for the abstract man, but for each man, real, concrete, historical, rooted in a particular situation and marked by psychological, social, cultural and religious dynamics, because "each and every one was understood in the mystery of the Redemption" 1. On the one hand, faith is not a linear process and participates in the development of the person, and this, in turn, influences the path of faith. It cannot be forgotten that each stage of life is exposed to specific challenges and must face up to the ever new dynamics of the Christian vocation.

Keep watching, because you don’t know the day or the hour.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 25: 1-13 - At that time, Jesus told his disciples this parable: 1 “The Kingdom of Heaven is like the story of the ten young women who took their oil lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom . 2 Five of them were unforeseen, and the other five were provident. 3 The unforeseen took their lamps, but did not take oil with them. 4Provident employees, however, took oil containers along with the lamps. 5The groom was taking too long and they all ended up dozing and sleeping. 6In the middle of the night, a cry was heard: ‘The groom is coming. Go to him! ’7Then the ten young women got up and prepared the lamps. 8The unforeseen said to the provident: 'Give us some oil, because our lamps are going out'. 9The prospective respondents replied: 'Not at all, because the oil may be insufficient for us and for you. You better go buy from the sellers ’. 10While they went to buy oil, the bridegroom arrived and those who were ready went with him to the wedding feast. And the door closed. 11 Finally, the other young women also came and said: ‘Lord! Sir! Open the door for us! ’12He replied,‘ Actually, I tell you, I don’t know you! ’13 So keep watching, because you don’t know the day or the hour”. - Word of salvation.

To think about
The core of this parable is verse 13: "Be vigilant". The bridegroom of the community (Church) is Jesus. Prudent virgins represent people who accept the Kingdom proposal and remain active in the practice of love and justice. They wait, for the great banquet, for the bridegroom who is late, but they do not neglect the oil. When the Lord comes, at the end of time, or at the time of passing into eternity, they will be able to participate in the eternal feast. Unjudged virgins are people who, distracted and alien to the values of the Kingdom of God, cannot enter the Lamb's wedding banquet. Better than hearing a resounding “I don't know you”, it will be to feed the oil of faith with the practice of justice in favor of others.

To Pray
O Jesus Messiah, in the face of the uncertainty of the day when you will come, or the time when you will take us with you, it may happen that we nap or sleep. Deliver us, Lord, from inertia and laziness, and keep us active in the service of the Kingdom. Amen.

Para os catequistas - Diretório para a Catequese

For catechists - Directory for Catechesis
47. In the formation of a cultural context of this kind, the role of the media is undeniable, which redefined the basic human coordinates, far beyond the purposes more closely related to the requirements of communication. “New technologies do not only change the way of communicating, but they carry out a vast cultural transformation. A new way of learning and thinking is being developed, with unprecedented opportunities to establish relationships and build communion »48. Therefore, the transformation touches the sphere of the person's identity and freedom, as well as cognitive capacities and learning systems; it inevitably provokes the interest of its relational modalities and, finally, it modifies the very approach of the experience of faith. Therefore, for "the revolution in the means of communication and information constitutes a great and passionate challenge that requires fresh energies and a new imagination to transmit the beauty of God to others".

Também vós ficai preparados!
You too are prepared!

Evangelho

Gospel
Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 24, 42-51 - At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: 42 “Stay alert, because you do not know what day the Lord will come. 43I understood this well: if the owner of the house knew what time the thief would come, he would certainly keep watch and not let his house be broken into. 44Therefore, you too are prepared! For when you least think, the Son of Man will come. 45What is the faithful and prudent employee that you have made responsible for the other employees, to give them food at the right time? 46Happy is the employee whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47Truly I say to you, he will entrust him with the administration of all his goods. 48But if the bad employee thinks: ‘My lord is taking too long’ 49 and starts beating his companions, eating and drinking with drunks, 50then that lord of this employee will come on the day he doesn’t wait and at the time he doesn’t know. 51He will split him in half and impose on him the fate of hypocrites. There, there will be crying and gnashing of teeth ”. - Word of salvation.

To think about
Often, concerns about survival, overwork, time spent at parties, all of this can distract us or divert our attention from the signs of God. The parable warns us that there will be accountability at the trial. Every end of each day is a good time for a sincere examination of conscience: how has my relationship with God, with myself, with others and nature been?

Vós sois como sepulcros caiados.
You are like whitewashed tombs.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 23,27-32 - At that time, Jesus said: 27 “Woe to you, teachers of the Law and hypocritical Pharisees! You are like whitewashed tombs: on the outside you look beautiful, but on the inside you are full of dead bones and all rot! 28You also: on the outside, you seem righteous to others, but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and injustice. 29Woe to you, teachers of the Law and hypocritical Pharisees! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the tombs of the righteous, 30 and say: 'If we had lived in the time of our parents, we would not have been complicit in the death of the prophets'. 31 With this, you confess that you are the children of those who killed the prophets. 32Complete, therefore, the measure of your parents! ” - Word of salvation.

To think about
Often, of course, we are disappointed with people who look like one thing and in reality are another. To the doctors of the Law and to the Pharisees, Jesus applies the image of the tombs beautifully painted with lime on the outside, carrying, however, rot and bones in his belly. Religious authorities, contemporary to Jesus, are continuing what their ancestors did.

Para os catequistas - Diretório para a Catequese

For catechists - Directory for Catechesis
420. It is important that catechesis is coordinated with the other dimensions of pastoral care for the particular Church. This “is not merely a strategic fact, in view of the greater incisive effectiveness of evangelizing action, but it has a fundamental theological dimension. Evangelizing action must be well coordinated because it aims at the unity + of + faith, which, in turn, sustains all the actions of the Church ». Catechesis has a close relationship with family, youth and vocational ministry, as well as with school and university ministry. Even if the Church's pastoral action is broader than catechesis, this, in turn - by virtue of its initiatory function -, enlivens it and makes it fruitful. The kerigmatic and missionary accentuation of catechesis at the present time favors pastoral conversion and, therefore, the missionary transformation of the Church.

Ensinamentos mais importantes: a justiça, a misericórdia e a fidelidade.
Most important teachings: justice, mercy and fidelity.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 23,23-26 - At that time, Jesus said: 23 “Woe to you, teachers of the Law and hypocritical Pharisees! You pay the tithing of mint, fennel and cumin and leave aside the most important teachings of the Law, such as justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should practice this without, however, leaving that. 24 Blind guides! You filter out the mosquito, but swallow the camel. 25Woe to you, teachers of the Law and hypocritical Pharisees! You clean the glass and plate outside, but inside, you are full of theft and greed. Blind Pharisee! First clean the glass inside, so that the outside is also clean ”. - Word of salvation.

To think about
Jesus does not match falsehood. Yes, because false behavior is misleading, it shows an image far from reality, sometimes completely opposite. In another passage, Jesus taught: "May your yes be yes, and no be no" (Mt 5.37). Lies become even more serious when they involve religion, because that is where people's good faith is at stake. Out of fear or respect for God, the simple people surrender, in a naive way, to the “commands” of their leaders. Doctors of the Law and Pharisees were fixated on the meticulous fulfillment of certain valid but secondary prescriptions, while neglecting the most important ones: the practice of justice, mercy and fidelity to God's plan. It is prudent not to be deceived by false teachers.

361. However, it must be recognized that “the digital environment is also a territory of loneliness, manipulation, exploitation and violence, even to the extreme case of the dark + web. Digital media can expose you to the risk of dependence, isolation and progressive loss of contact with concrete reality, making it difficult to develop authentic interpersonal relationships. New forms of violence are disseminated through social networks, such as cyberbullying; the web is also a channel for spreading pornography and exploiting people for sexual purposes or through gambling ». In addition, economic interests, operating in the digital world, are "capable of carrying out forms of control that are as subtle as they are invasive, creating mechanisms for manipulating consciences and the democratic process". It is necessary to remember that many platforms often favor “the encounter between people with the same ideas, making it difficult to confront differences. These closed circuits facilitate the dissemination of false information and news, fostering prejudice and hatred ». Digital spaces can create a distorted view of reality, even causing a lack of care for the inner life, visible in the loss of identity and roots, in cynicism as a response to emptiness, in progressive dehumanization and the increasing tendency for people to become close in on themselves.

Jesus de Nazaré, o filho de José.
Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.

Evangelho

Gospel
John 1,45-51 - 45Filipe met with Nathanael and said: “We found the one whom Moses wrote in the Law and also the prophets: he is Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.” 46Natanael said, "Can good things come out of Nazareth?" Philip replied: "Come, and you will see." 47Jesus saw Nathanael approaching and commented: "Here is a true Israelite, without falsehood." 48Natanael asked, "Where do you know me from?" Jesus replied, "Before Philip called you, I saw you when you were under the fig tree." 49Natanael replied, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the king of Israel!" 50Jesus said: "Are you believing just because I told you, 'I saw you under the fig tree'? However, you will see things bigger than that. ” 51And Jesus continued, "I assure you, you will see the open sky, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."

To think about
The authentic person is not the one who keeps questioning for questioning, it is not the one who keeps asking questions, doubting everything and everyone. It is not one that lives only criticizing and posing problems in everything. The authentic person is the one who wants to live his true identity with authenticity, that's why he asks the why of things, in order to live that truth. And Nathanael not only questions, but he will check, he will see, he will chase; and when he meets Jesus, he himself professes: "Rabbi, you are the Son of God, you are the King of Israel". The authentic person is one who knows how to bend his own convictions. The proud no, he knows that he is wrong, that he doubted, questioned and prefers to continue in doubt and questioning, always creating problems to not recognize what, in fact, he had wrongly verified. The authentic is humble above all things, he wants to know and recognizes that what he knew was limited and wrong, and he begins to know the truth. Captivated by Jesus, Nathanael became his apostle and enthusiastic preacher of the gospel.

Jesus é o Messias.
Jesus is the Messiah.

Evangelho

Gospel
Jesus is the Messiah - Matheus 16,13-20 - 13Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, and asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of Man is?" 14They replied, “Some say it is John the Baptist; others, which is Elias; still others, which is Jeremiah, or one of the prophets. ” 15Then Jesus asked them, "And who do you say I am?" 16Simão Peter replied: "You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God." 17Jesus said: “You are happy, Simon, son of Jonah, because it was not a human being who revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. 18Therefore, I say to you, you are Peter, and on that rock I will build my Church, and the power of death can never overcome it. 19I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of Heaven, and what you connect on earth will be connected in heaven, and what you disconnect on earth will be disconnected in heaven. ” 20Jesus then commanded the disciples not to tell anyone that he was the Messiah.

To think about
Jesus wants to know what his closest followers think of him, of his person. Peter, on behalf of the group, intervenes and recognizes that Jesus, more than just a prophet, is the true revelation of the Father. Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God. By his answer, revealed by the Father, Peter is proclaimed happy, as he testifies to the faith of the community, and receives the keys to open the doors of the Kingdom of God to all who wish to have access to Him. Jesus' question continues today : "And you, who do you say I am?" The Master does not want to know our opinion, but our attitude of life, the option we make.

359. The massive introduction and use of digital instruments has caused profound and complex changes at many levels, with cultural, social and psychological consequences, not yet fully evident. The digital, which does not correspond only to the presence of technological means, effectively characterizes the contemporary world and its influence has become, in a short space of time, habitual and continuous, to the point of being seen as natural. We live "in a widely digitalized culture that has very profound impacts on the notion of time and space, on the perception of oneself, others and the world, on the way of communicating, learning, obtaining information, entering into relationships with others". Therefore, the digital is not only part of the existing cultures, but it is imposing itself as a new culture, modifying the language, modeling the mentality and reworking the hierarchies of values. And all of this on a global scale because, having eliminated geographical distances with the widespread presence of networked devices, it involves people all over the planet.
