Jesus presents to his disciples the second announcement of his passion. But they did not understand that, as disciples, they should follow the same path as the master. Jesus lowers. The disciples want to rise. That's why they make a big mouth about which one would be the greatest. They are far from understanding the spirit of the novelty that Jesus is introducing in human relations. Who's the greatest? The smallest. To illustrate his teaching, Jesus gives prominence to a child, putting it on his side. This reveals the meaning of all his work: true greatness is in humility. In the aftermath, Jesus warns his disciples against the temptation of fanaticism. For Jesus, it is not necessary for someone to officially belong to their group to have the right to act on their behalf.
