Os doze iam com ele e também algumas mulheres.

The twelve went with him and also some women.

Além dos Doze que o acompanham, também algumas mulheres fazem parte do anúncio da mensagem cristã. A tradição conservou o nome de algumas delas (Joana, Suzana) e sua atuação em momentos importantes (Maria Madalena, na ressurreição de Jesus). A Igreja primitiva, à semelhança de Jesus, abriu significativo espaço para a ação das mulheres nas comunidades. A mulher não tem papel passivo no mistério da salvação, e hoje é chamada a novos encargos apostólicos, como evidenciou o Concílio Vaticano II.

In addition to the twelve accompanying him, some women are also part of the announcement of the Christian message. The tradition preserved the name of some of them (Joana, Suzana) and their performance in important moments (Mary Magdalene, in the resurrection of Jesus). The primitive church, like Jesus, has opened up significant space for the action of women in the communities. The woman has no passive role in the mystery of salvation, and is now called to new apostolic burdens, as evidenced by the Second Vatican Council.

Leitura da primeira carta de são Paulo a Timóteo 6,2-12 – Caríssimo, 2ensina e recomenda estas coisas. 3Quem ensina doutrinas estranhas e discorda das palavras salutares de nosso Senhor Jesus Cristo e da doutrina conforme à piedade 4é um obcecado pelo orgulho, um ignorante que morbidamente se compraz em questões e discussões de palavras. Daí é que nascem invejas, contendas, insultos, suspeitas, 5porfias de homens com mente corrompida e privados da verdade, que fazem da piedade assunto de lucro. 6Sem dúvida, grande fonte de lucro é a piedade, mas quando acompanhada do espírito de desprendimento. 7Porque nada trouxemos ao mundo como tampouco nada poderemos levar. 8Tendo alimento e vestuário, fiquemos satisfeitos. 9Os que desejam enriquecer caem em tentação e armadilhas, em muitos desejos loucos e perniciosos que afundam os homens na perdição e na ruína, 10porque a raiz de todos os males é a cobiça do dinheiro. Por se terem deixado levar por ela, muitos se extraviaram da fé e se atormentam a si mesmos com muitos sofrimentos. 11Tu que és um homem de Deus, foge das coisas perversas, procura a justiça, a piedade, a fé, o amor, a firmeza, a mansidão. 12Combate o bom combate da fé, conquista a vida eterna, para a qual foste chamado e pela qual fizeste tua nobre profissão de fé diante de muitas testemunhas. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading from St Paul's first letter to Timothy 6,2-12 – most expensive, 2teaches and recommends these things. 3Who teaches strange doctrines and disagrees with the wholesome words of our Lord Jesus Christ and the doctrine conforming to piety 4is an obsessed with pride, an ignorant who morbidly buys himself into questions and discussions of words. Hence, they are born envy, contention, insults, suspicions, 5porfias of men with a corrupt mind and deprived of the truth, who make pity the subject of profit. 6Undoubtedly, great source of profit is pity, but when accompanied by the spirit of detachment. 7Because Nothing we have brought to the world but nothing can take. 8Having Food and clothing, we are satisfied. 9Those who wish to enrich fall into temptation and traps, in many mad and pernicious desires that sink men into doom and ruin, 10because the root of all evils is the greed of money. Felizes os humildes de espírito, / porque deles é o reino dos céus. 

– Por que temer os dias maus e infelizes / quando a malícia dos perversos me circunda? / Por que temer os que confiam nas riquezas / e se gloriam na abundância de seus bens? 

– Ninguém se livra de sua morte por dinheiro / nem a Deus pode pagar o seu resgate. / A isenção da própria morte não tem preço; / não há riqueza que a possa adquirir, / nem dar ao homem uma vida sem limites / e garantir-lhe uma existência imortal. 

– Não te inquietes quando um homem fica rico / e aumenta a opulência de sua casa; / pois, ao morrer, não levará nada consigo, / nem seu prestígio poderá acompanhá-lo. 

– Felicitava-se a si mesmo enquanto vivo: / “Todos te aplaudem, tudo bem, isto que é vida!” / Mas vai-se ele para junto de seus pais, / que nunca mais e nunca mais verão a luz!

Salmo 48/49

Happy the humble of spirit,/because of them is the Kingdom of heaven. 
– Why fear the wicked and unhappy days/when the wickedness of the wicked surrounds me? /Why fear those who trust in riches/and rejoice in the abundance of their possessions? 
– No one gets rid of his death for money/nor can God afford his ransom. /The exemption from death itself is priceless; /There is no wealth that can acquire it,/nor give the man a life without limits/and guarantee him an immortal existence. 
– Do not worry when a man becomes rich/and increases the opulence of his home; /For When you die, you will take nothing with you, nor will your prestige accompany you.
