Sobre a prática do jejum, há dois grupos de discípulos que o praticam, os de João e os dos fariseus; ao passo que os discípulos de Jesus, não o fazem. Doutores da Lei e fariseus querem de Jesus uma satisfação. Jesus desloca a importância do jejuar para o significado do noivo (o próprio Messias) que ora está presente no meio deles. São tempos novos; o tempo da espera já se cumpriu. Agora é alegrar-se com a presença de Jesus e da sua Boa-Nova. Ouvir-lhe o apelo e dar-lhe adesão pela fé. A comparação de Jesus acentua a necessidade de dar um salto de qualidade para superar esquemas envelhecidos (roupa velha, vinho velho) e assumir a novidade do Reino (roupa nova, vinho novo), isto é, vida abundante e liberdade para todos. terra e no céu, realizando a paz pelo sangue da sua cruz. – Palavra do Senhor.
