“Um profeta só não é estimado em sua própria pátria e em sua família!”

"A prophet alone is not esteemed in his own country and in his family!"

A Palavra do Senhor permanece eternamente, / e esta é a Palavra que vos foi anunciada (1Pd 1,25). – Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 13,54-58 – Naquele tempo, 54dirigindo-se para a sua terra, Jesus ensinava na sinagoga, de modo que ficavam admirados. E diziam: “De onde lhe vem essa sabedoria e esses milagres? 55Não é ele o filho do carpinteiro? Sua mãe não se chama Maria, e seus irmãos não são Tiago, José, Simão e Judas? 56E suas irmãs não moram conosco? Então, de onde lhe vem tudo isso?” 57E ficaram escandalizados por causa dele. Jesus, porém, disse: “Um profeta só não é estimado em sua própria pátria e em sua família!” 58E Jesus não fez ali muitos milagres, porque eles não tinham fé. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel 

The Word of the Lord remains forever, / and this is the Word that has been announced to you (1Pt 1,25). - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 13, 54-58 - At that time, going to his homeland, Jesus taught in the synagogue, so that they were amazed. And they said, “Where does that wisdom and miracles come from? 55Is he not the carpenter's son? Isn't your mother called Mary, and aren't your brothers James, Joseph, Simon and Judas? 56And don't your sisters live with us? So, where does all this come from? ” 57And they were scandalized because of him. Jesus, however, said: "A prophet alone is not esteemed in his own country and in his family!" 58And Jesus did not do many miracles there, because they had no faith. - Word of salvation.

Reflection 

Jesus volta para sua terra e duas são as reações de seus conterrâneos. Começam admirando Jesus, por sua sabedoria e seus milagres. Entretanto, por conhecerem sua origem simples e conviverem com seus parentes, levantam a dúvida: como poderia ele manifestar tão elevada sabedoria? Fechados em seus preconceitos, não se abrem para a fé em Jesus. Portanto, não existem milagres onde não há fé, assim como hoje também.

Reflection 

Jesus returns to his land and two are the reactions of his countrymen. They begin by admiring Jesus, for his wisdom and his miracles. However, because they know his simple origin and live with his relatives, they raise the question: how could he manifest such high wisdom? Closed in their prejudices, they are not open to faith in Jesus. So there are no miracles where there is no faith, just like today.
