Remendo de pano novo vai rasgar roupa velha.

Patch of new cloth will rip old clothes.

Minhas ovelhas escutam minha voz, / eu as conheço, e elas me seguem (Jo 10,27). – Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 9,14-17 – Naquele tempo, 14os discípulos de João aproximaram-se de Jesus e perguntaram: “Por que razão nós e os fariseus praticamos jejuns, mas os teus discípulos não?” 15Disse-lhes Jesus: “Por acaso, os amigos do noivo podem estar de luto enquanto o noivo está com eles? Dias virão em que o noivo será tirado do meio deles. Então, sim, eles jejuarão. 16Ninguém coloca remendo de pano novo em roupa velha, porque o remendo repuxa a roupa, e o rasgão fica maior ainda. 17Também não se coloca vinho novo em odres velhos, senão os odres se arrebentam, o vinho se derrama e os odres se perdem. Mas vinho novo se coloca em odres novos, e assim os dois se conservam”. – Palavra da salvação.

My sheep hear my voice, / I know them, and they follow me (Jn 10,27). - Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 9,14-17 - At that time, 14 of John's disciples approached Jesus and asked: “Why do we and the Pharisees practice fasting, but your disciples do not?” 15 Jesus said to them, “Can the bridegroom's friends be in mourning while the bridegroom is with them? Days will come when the bridegroom will be taken from their midst. So yes, they will fast. 16 Nobody puts a patch of new cloth on old clothes, because the patch pulls on the clothes, and the tear gets even bigger. 17 Neither is new wine added to old skins, otherwise the skins will burst, the wine will spill and the skins will be lost. But new wine is placed in new wineskins, and so the two are preserved ”. - Word of salvation.

Reflexão

Jejuar, na tradição judaica, estava muito ligado à necessidade de obter favores de Deus. Cumprir os mandamentos para ganhar o céu. Ora, Deus não depende da quantidade de coisas boas que fazemos para nos acudir com suas graças. Graça vem de graça; não por nossos méritos. É o que Jesus nos ensina. E o apóstolo Paulo insiste: “É pela graça que vocês foram salvos… E isso não provém de vocês, mas é dom de Deus” (Ef 2,8). Confira também em Isaías 28.

Reflection

Fasting, in Jewish tradition, was closely linked to the need to obtain favor from God. Keep the commandments to win heaven. Now, God does not depend on the amount of good things we do to help us with his graces. Grace comes for free; not on our merits. It is what Jesus teaches us. And the apostle Paul insists: "It is by grace that you were saved ... And that does not come from you, but it is the gift of God" (Eph 2,8). Check also in Isaiah 28.
