Jesus comunica que vai enviar o Espírito da Verdade, que procede do Pai. Chama-o de Advogado (ou Defensor). Ele vem para dar testemunho de Jesus e de sua obra, isto é, lembrar e esclarecer aos discípulos tudo o que Jesus ensinou. O Espírito estará presente e atuante na vida de cada cristão e na vida das comunidades, em toda parte. Também adverte que seus seguidores não precisam se preocupar com o que vão responder diante dos tribunais, pois terão a garantia da ação eficaz do Espírito Santo, o Defensor dos cristãos.

He comes to bear witness to Jesus and his work, that is, to remember and clarify to the disciples everything that Jesus taught. It also warns that its followers need not worry about what they will answer before the courts, as they will be guaranteed the effective action of the Holy Spirit, the Defender of Christians.
