Se o nosso serviço não estiver transbordante de amor, então... Então, o quê? Então, Deus que é amor não vive em nós. Mas se Deus vive em nós, transpiraremos amor pelos poros. Alguém disse que “o dever leva-nos a fazer tudo bem feito; o amor leva-nos a fazer, além de bem feito, com alegria e beleza.” Jesus se apresenta no texto de hoje como o noivo que desposa a comunidade e convida todos a viverem esta festa sublime. E a festa é justamente a presença dele, de suas obras em favor dos menos favorecidos. A festa da renovação de mentalidade. Momento de reconhecer que não é o acúmulo de obras que apressa a vinda do Messias. Jesus já está presente como expressão viva do infinito amor de Deus. É preciso entrar em comunhão com ele. Portanto, nem jejum nem luto, mas festa jubilosa porque Deus está conosco. A resposta de Jesus não desvaloriza nem anula a prática do jejum. Mas é preciso não se deter em ações que desviam o foco do que é mais importante: no centro estão Jesus e seus ensinamentos. Nessa nova realidade, mais importante do que o jejum é acolher Jesus, presente também na vida do outro.

It is necessary to enter into communion with him. Therefore, neither fast nor mourning, but joyful feast because God is with us. Jesus' response does not devalue or cancel the practice of fasting. But we must not dwell on actions that divert the focus from what is most important: at the center are Jesus and his teachings. In this new reality, more important than fasting is welcoming Jesus, present also in the life of the other.
