O segundo domingo da Quaresma apresenta o Evangelho da transfiguração. Jesus e três discípulos sobem à montanha para rezar e lá o Mestre se transfigura diante deles. Enquanto Jesus dialoga com Moisés e Elias, representantes do Antigo Testamento, os três discípulos dormem e não escutam a voz que fala do êxodo (morte) do Mestre. Depois de acordarem, eles contemplam a glória de Jesus e, fascinados pela beleza, sugerem eternizar essa realidade, construindo moradia. Porém uma voz veio da nuvem e pediu-lhes para escutar e seguir o que o Filho determina. A transfiguração mostra que a paixão e a morte fazem parte de projeto de Jesus. Ele é o verdadeiro intérprete da Escritura. É a ele que devemos ouvir e obedecer. A voz do Mestre nos desinstala e nos leva a descer da montanha, onde realizamos nossa missão de tornar presente o Reino de Deus. Não podemos ficar acomodados no alto da montanha e permanecer eternamente contemplando a glória do Filho. É lá embaixo, na planície, que estão os desafios e o povo sofrido com suas necessidades e ansioso pela transfiguração da realidade sofrida.

The second Sunday of Lent presents the Gospel of the Transfiguration. Jesus and three disciples go up to the mountain to pray and there the Master is transfigured before them. As Jesus converses with Moses and Elijah, representatives of the Old Testament, the three disciples sleep and do not hear the voice that speaks of the exodus (death) of the Master. After waking up, they contemplate the glory of Jesus and, fascinated by the beauty, they suggest to eternalize this reality, building dwelling. But a voice came from the cloud and asked them to listen and follow what the Son determines. The transfiguration shows that passion and death are part of Jesus' design. He is the true interpreter of Scripture. It is to him that we must listen and obey. The Master's voice unlocks us and takes us down the mountain, where we carry out our mission of making the Kingdom of God present. We can not sit on top of the mountain and remain eternally contemplating the glory of the Son. It is down there, in the plain, that the challenges are and the people suffered with their needs and anxious for the transfiguration of the reality suffered.

Leitura do livro do Gênesis 15,5-12.17-18 – Naqueles dias, 5o Senhor conduziu Abrão para fora e disse-lhe: “Olha para o céu e conta as estrelas se fores capaz!” E acrescentou: “Assim será a tua descendência”. 6Abrão teve fé no Senhor, que considerou isso como justiça. 7E lhe disse: “Eu sou o Senhor que te fez sair de Ur dos caldeus para te dar em possessão esta terra”. 8Abrão lhe perguntou: “Senhor Deus, como poderei saber que vou possuí-la?” 9E o Senhor lhe disse: “Traze-me uma novilha de três anos, uma cabra de três anos, um carneiro de três anos, além de uma rola e de uma pombinha”. 10Abrão trouxe tudo e dividiu os animais pelo meio, mas não as aves, colocando as respectivas partes uma frente à outra. 11Aves de rapina se precipitaram sobre os cadáveres, mas Abrão as enxotou. 12Quando o sol já se ia pondo, caiu um sono profundo sobre Abrão e ele foi tomado de grande e misterioso terror. 17Quando o sol se pôs e escureceu, apareceu um braseiro fumegante e uma tocha de fogo, que passaram por entre os animais divididos. 18Naquele dia o Senhor fez aliança com Abrão, dizendo: “Aos teus descendentes darei esta terra, desde o rio do Egito até o grande rio, o Eufrates”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas 9,28-36 – Naquele tempo, 28Jesus levou consigo Pedro, João e Tiago e subiu à montanha para rezar. 29Enquanto rezava, seu rosto mudou de aparência e sua roupa ficou muito branca e brilhante. 30Eis que dois homens estavam conversando com Jesus: eram Moisés e Elias. 31Eles apareceram revestidos de glória e conversavam sobre a morte que Jesus iria sofrer em Jerusalém. 32Pedro e os companheiros estavam com muito sono. Ao despertarem, viram a glória de Jesus e os dois homens que estavam com ele. 33E quando estes homens se iam afastando, Pedro disse a Jesus: “Mestre, é bom estarmos aqui. Vamos fazer três tendas: uma para ti, outra para Moisés e outra para Elias”. Pedro não sabia o que estava dizendo. 34Ele estava ainda falando quando apareceu uma nuvem que os cobriu com sua sombra.
