Leitura da profecia de Sofonias 3,1-2.9-13 – Assim fala o Senhor: 1″Ai de ti, rebelde e desonrada, cidade desumana. 2Ela não prestou ouvidos ao apelo, não aceitou a correção; não teve confiança no Senhor nem se aproximou de seu Deus. 9Darei aos povos, nesse tempo, lábios purificados, para que todos invoquem o nome do Senhor e lhe prestem culto em união de esforços. 10Desde além-rios da Etiópia, os que me adoram, os dispersos do meu povo, me trarão suas oferendas. 11Naquele dia, não terás de envergonhar-te por causa de todas as tuas obras com que prevaricaste contra mim; pois eu afastarei do teu meio teus fanfarrões arrogantes, e não continuarás a fazer de meu santo monte motivo de tuas vanglórias. 12E deixarei entre vós um punhado de homens humildes e pobres”. E no nome do Senhor porá sua esperança o resto de Israel. 13Eles não cometerão iniquidades nem falarão mentiras; não se encontrará em sua boca uma língua enganadora; serão apascentados e repousarão, e ninguém os molestará. – Palavra do Senhor.

Para refletir
Jesus não perde a ocasião para dar um recado sob medida aos sumos sacerdotes e anciãos, líderes religiosos de Israel. Sumos sacerdotes e anciãos formam o grupo governante em Jerusalém. Conhecem as leis, as Escrituras sagradas, mas são indiferentes e até mesmo contrários à pregação de Jesus, o Messias. Esses líderes religiosos se consideram obedientes a Deus, mas desprezam a pessoa e a mensagem do Filho de Deus. São representados pelo filho que disse sim, mas não cumpriu a vontade do pai. Cobradores de impostos e prostitutas, por sua vez, desprezados pelas autoridades religiosas, correspondem ao segundo filho. Arrependidos de sua vida passada, já experimentam a presença salvadora de Deus manifestada em Jesus, para quem João havia preparado o caminho.
To think about
Jesus does not miss the opportunity to give a message tailored to the high priests and elders, religious leaders of Israel. High priests and elders form the governing group in Jerusalem. They know the laws, the Holy Scriptures, but they are indifferent and even against the preaching of Jesus, the Messiah. These religious leaders consider themselves obedient to God, but they despise the person and message of the Son of God. They are represented by the son who said yes, but did not fulfill his father's wishes. Tax collectors and prostitutes, in turn, despised by religious authorities, correspond to the second child. Repent of their past life, they already experience the saving presence of God manifested in Jesus, for whom John had prepared the way.
