Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías 61,1-2.10-11 – 1O espírito do Senhor Deus está sobre mim, porque o Senhor me ungiu; enviou-me para dar a boa-nova aos humildes, curar as feridas da alma, pregar a redenção para os cativos e a liberdade para os que estão presos; 2para proclamar o tempo da graça do Senhor. 10Exulto de alegria no Senhor e minha alma regozija-se em meu Deus; ele me vestiu com as vestes da salvação, envolveu-me com o manto da justiça e adornou-me como um noivo com sua coroa ou uma noiva com suas joias. 11Assim como a terra faz brotar a planta e o jardim faz germinar a semente, assim o Senhor Deus fará germinar a justiça e a sua glória diante de todas as nações. – Palavra do Senhor.

Temos, mais uma vez, a presença de João Batista neste terceiro domingo do Advento. O Batista surge como homem enviado por Deus para dar testemunho da luz. Ele não é o Messias nem o Profeta, mas a voz que grita no deserto e convida a aplainar o caminho do Senhor. Havia dúvidas sobre se João seria o Messias esperado, por isso as diversas perguntas dos sacerdotes e levitas. João descarta essa possibilidade e diz que veio para anunciar “alguém ainda desconhecido” pelos interlocutores. Tudo começa em Betânia (“casa dos pobres”), nas periferias dos grandes centros religiosos e políticos. É o início de uma semana que mostra a atuação do precursor e abre a atividade de Jesus. Está cada vez mais difícil ouvir “vozes que venham do deserto” e anunciem novas realidades, boas notícias. Nos tempos modernos, o que se ouve são propagandas midiáticas que atiçam o consumismo e anunciam supérfluos.
To think about
We have, once again, the presence of John the Baptist on this third Sunday of Advent. The Baptist appears as a man sent by God to bear witness to the light. He is not the Messiah or the Prophet, but the voice that screams in the desert and invites to smooth the way of the Lord. There were doubts about whether John was the expected Messiah, hence the various questions from the priests and Levites. João dismisses this possibility and says that he came to announce "someone still unknown" by the interlocutors. It all starts in Betânia (“house of the poor”), on the outskirts of the great religious and political centers. It is the beginning of a week that shows the performance of the precursor and opens the activity of Jesus. It is increasingly difficult to hear “voices that come from the desert” and announce new realities, good news. In modern times, what you hear are media advertisements that stoke consumerism and announce superfluous.
Para rezar
Ó Jesus, luz do mundo, para preparar Tua chegada, veio um “homem enviado por Deus”, João Batista. Com sinceridade e clareza, ele se apresenta como aquele que vem “preparar os caminhos do Senhor”. Dá-nos, ó Cristo, a graça de realizar, com humildade, a missão que Deus reservou para cada um de nós. Amém.
