Ana e Joaquim, pais de Maria, avós de Jesus, pertencem ao período localizado entre o Antigo e o Novo Testamento. Seus nomes não aparecem na Bíblia, mas nós os aceitamos da tradição. Nomes ricos de significado: Joaquim significa “Deus concede”, e Ana é o mesmo que “Graça”. Um casal abençoado por Deus. Desse casal nasce Maria, a bendita entre as mulheres, a mãe de Jesus, o Filho do Altíssimo. O culto de Sant’Ana é documentado no Oriente no século VI; no Ocidente, no século X. O culto de São Joaquim, no século XIV. São Joaquim era deixado discretamente de lado talvez pela discordância quanto ao seu nome. Pelos frutos se conhece a árvore, nos ensina Jesus. Pela santidade do fruto-Maria deduzimos a santidade dos pais, Ana e Joaquim.
