I want mercy and not sacrifice

1a.Leitura - Gênesis 23,1-4.19; 24,1-8.62-67

Leitura do livro do Gênesis – ¹ Sara viveu cento e vinte e sete anos ² e morreu em Cariat Arbe, que é Hebron, em Canaã. Abraão veio fazer luto por Sara e chorá-la. ³ Depois, levantou-se de junto da morta e falou aos hititas: ⁴ “Sou um estrangeiro e hóspede no vosso meio. Cedei-me como propriedade entre vós um lugar de sepultura, onde possa sepultar minha esposa que morreu”. ¹⁹ Assim, Abraão sepultou Sara, sua mulher, na caverna do campo de Macpela, em frente de Mambré, que é Hebron, na terra de Canaã. ^24,1 Abraão já era velho, de idade avançada, e o Senhor o havia abençoado em tudo. ² Abraão disse ao servo mais antigo da sua casa, administrador de todos os seus bens: “Põe a mão debaixo da minha coxa ³ e jura-me pelo Senhor, Deus do céu e da terra, que não escolherás para meu filho uma mulher entre as filhas dos cananeus, no meio dos quais eu moro; ⁴ mas tu irás à minha terra natal, buscar entre os meus parentes uma mulher para o meu filho Isaac”. ⁵ E o servo respondeu: “E se a mulher não quiser vir comigo para esta terra, deverei levar teu filho para a terra de onde saíste?” ⁶ Abraão respondeu: “Guarda-te de levar meu filho de volta para lá. ⁷ O Senhor, Deus do céu, que me tirou da casa do meu pai e da minha terra natal e que me falou e jurou, dizendo: ‘À tua descendência darei esta terra’, ele mesmo enviará seu anjo diante de ti e trarás de lá uma mulher para meu filho. ⁸ Porém, se a mulher não quiser vir contigo, ficarás livre deste juramento; mas de maneira alguma levarás meu filho de volta para lá”. ⁶² Isaac tinha voltado da região do poço de Laai-Rói e morava na terra do Negueb. ⁶³ Ao cair da tarde, Isaac saiu para o campo a passear. Levantando os olhos, viu camelos que chegavam. ⁶⁴ Rebeca também, erguendo os olhos, viu Isaac. Desceu do camelo ⁶⁵ e perguntou ao servo: “Quem é aquele homem que vem pelo campo ao nosso encontro?” O servo respondeu: “É o meu senhor”. Ela puxou o véu e cobriu o rosto. ⁶⁶ Então o servo contou a Isaac tudo o que tinha feito. ⁶⁷ Ele introduziu Rebeca na tenda de Sara, sua mãe, e recebeu-a por esposa. Isaac amou-a, consolando-se assim da morte da mãe. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, ⁹ Jesus viu um homem, chamado Mateus, sentado na coletoria de impostos e disse-lhe: “Segue-me!” Ele se levantou e seguiu a Jesus. ¹⁰ Enquanto Jesus estava à mesa, em casa de Mateus, vieram muitos cobradores de impostos e pecadores e sentaram-se à mesa com Jesus e seus discípulos. ¹¹ Alguns fariseus viram isso e perguntaram aos discípulos: “Por que vosso mestre come com os cobradores de impostos e pecadores?” ¹² Jesus ouviu a pergunta e respondeu: “Aqueles que têm saúde não precisam de médico, mas sim os doentes. ¹³ Aprendei, pois, o que significa: ‘Quero misericórdia e não sacrifício’. De fato, eu não vim para chamar os justos, mas os pecadores”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Mateus 9,9-13

Refletindo o Evangelho  

Por prestar serviço aos ocupantes romanos, os cobradores de impostos eram malvistos ou mesmo desprezados pelos judeus. Jesus, que veio para oferecer a salvação a todos, não se deixa levar por esses preconceitos. Por isso chama justamente um cobrador de impostos para ser seu discípulo. Esse modo de pensar e agir de Jesus ganha evidência quando se dispõe a participar de uma refeição a que comparecem também cobradores de impostos e pecadores. Um prato cheio para os fariseus (o que faziam aí?) que censuram a atitude do Mestre por se misturar com essa gente! Jesus argumenta: os doentes é que precisam de médico! À força de observâncias, os fariseus se consideram sãos e justos: permanecem fechados à misericórdia do Senhor, da qual Mateus se torna verdadeira testemunha.

Reflecting the Gospel
For providing service to the Roman occupiers, tax collectors were generally disliked or even despised by the Jews. Jesus, who came to offer salvation to all, don't get carried away by these prejudices. That's why it's called just a tax collector to be your disciple. This way of thinking and acting of Jesus WINS evidence when it offers to participate in a meal that attend also tax collectors and sinners. A full plate for the Pharisees (what they did there?) that is critical of the attitude of the master by mixing with those people. Jesus argues: the sick is in need of a doctor. By dint of observances, the Pharisees are considered safe and fair: remain closed to the mercy of the Lord, which Matthew becomes true witness.

Rezando
Louvai o Senhor, bendizei-o; louvai o Senhor, servos seus, que celebrais o louvor em seu templo e habitais junto aos átrios de Deus! Louvai o Senhor, porque é bom; cantai ao seu nome suave! Escolheu para si a Jacó, preferiu Israel por herança. Eu bem sei que o Senhor é tão grande, que é maior do que todos os deuses.
