1st Reading - Gênesis 23,1-4.19; 24,1-8.62-67
Gospel - Mateus 9,9-13
For providing service to the Roman occupiers, tax collectors were generally disliked or even despised by the Jews. Jesus, who came to offer salvation to all, don't get carried away by these prejudices. That's why it's called just a tax collector to be your disciple. This way of thinking and acting of Jesus WINS evidence when it offers to participate in a meal that attend also tax collectors and sinners. A full plate for the Pharisees (what they did there?) that is critical of the attitude of the master by mixing with those people. Jesus argues: the sick is in need of a doctor. By dint of observances, the Pharisees are considered safe and fair: remain closed to the mercy of the Lord, which Matthew becomes true witness.
(Salmo 134/135).
Praise the Lord, praise him; praise the Lord, your servants, to celebrating the praise in your Temple and dwell near the Atria of God! Praise the Lord, because it is good; sing to your name soft! Chosen for you Jacob, Israel preferred by inheritance. I know that the Lord is so great, that is greater than all gods. He does whatever pleases him, † on the heights of the heavens and the Earth, the ocean and back chasms.
