Estando fechadas as portas, Jesus entrou, pôs-se no meio deles e disse: “A paz esteja convosco”. 27 Depois disse a Tomé: “Põe o teu dedo aqui e olha as minhas mãos. Estende a tua mão e coloca-a no meu lado. E não sejas incrédulo, mas fiel”. 28 Tomé respondeu: “Meu Senhor e meu Deus!” 29 Jesus lhe disse: “Acreditaste porque me viste? Bem-aventurados os que creram sem terem visto!” – Palavra da salvação.
Gospel - João 20,24-29

Refletindo o Evangelho
Tomé é organizado e calculista, daqueles que não compram sem ver ou
apalpar o produto. Fez parte do grupo dos doze apóstolos e foi
aprendendo de Jesus a adaptar-se às circunstâncias conforme as
necessidades do povo que o cercava. Tomé leva a fama de incrédulo,
talvez por sua forte tendência a verificar a realidade. Entretanto, é
ele quem, diante da evidência do Cristo ressuscitado, expressa uma das
grandes profissões de fé, que continua ecoando até hoje nos lábios dos
que creem: “Meu Senhor e meu Deus!”. E abre a ocasião para Jesus
esclarecer como se dá o exercício da fé, isto é, deve-se acreditar sem
ver: “Felizes os que não viram e acreditaram”. Não se conhecem as
circunstâncias da vida de Tomé após Pentecostes. Acredita-se que tenha
sido missionário na Índia, onde sofreu o martírio.
