Refletindo o Evangelho
Alguns doutores da Lei e fariseus pedem a Jesus um sinal que dê credibilidade à sua missão. Na verdade, Jesus havia realizado publicamente numerosos prodígios pelo poder do Espírito Santo. Mas esses líderes permaneceram fechados e, por vezes, perigosos em relação ao Mestre. Em sua resposta, ele evoca a figura de Jonas que vive uma experiência de morte, vida e anúncio de salvação aos ninivitas. Como critério habitual para obter a fé, Jesus propõe, não os milagres, mas a aceitação de sua morte e ressurreição. A morte de Cristo completada por seu sepultamento será, portanto, o sinal messiânico por excelência. A fé nos coloca em contato com o Deus que sofreu por nós e que hoje vive, e não apenas com um Deus que teve poder e fez milagres.
