Leitura do livro dos Juízes 13,2-7.24-25 – Naqueles dias, 2havia um homem de Saraá, da tribo de Dã, chamado Manué, cuja mulher era estéril. 3O anjo do Senhor apareceu à mulher e disse-lhe: “Tu és estéril e não tiveste filhos, mas conceberás e darás à luz um filho. 4Toma cuidado de não beberes vinho nem licor, de não comeres coisa alguma impura, 5pois conceberás e darás à luz um filho. Sua cabeça não será tocada por navalha, porque ele será consagrado ao Senhor desde o ventre materno e começará a libertar Israel das mãos dos filisteus”. 6A mulher foi dizer ao seu marido: “Veio visitar-me um homem de Deus cujo aspecto era terrível como o de um anjo do Senhor. Não lhe perguntei de onde vinha, nem ele me revelou o seu nome. 7Ele disse-me: ‘Conceberás e darás à luz um filho. De hoje em diante, toma cuidado para não beberes vinho nem licor e não comeres nada de impuro, pois o menino será consagrado a Deus desde o ventre materno até o dia da sua morte’”. 24Ela deu à luz um filho e deu-lhe o nome de Sansão. O menino cresceu, e o Senhor o abençoou. 25O espírito do Senhor começou a agir nele no campo de Dã. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 1,5-25- 5 ​​In the days of Herod king of Judea there lived a priest named Zechariah, of the group of Abia. Refletindo o Evangelho 

Zacarias e Isabel “eram justos diante de Deus”, e fiéis praticantes dos mandamentos do Senhor. Eram bem idosos; e Isabel, estéril. É na vida desse casal simples que Deus fará maravilhas permitindo-lhe gerar um filho. Mediante o arcanjo Gabriel, Deus organiza tudo, até mesmo quanto ao nome que lhe será dado, João, que significa “Deus se compadece”. Esse menino “estará cheio do Espírito Santo, já desde o ventre de sua mãe”. Ele irá “preparar ao Senhor um povo bem disposto”. Zacarias exultará de felicidade e ”muitos se alegrarão” com o nascimento do menino. Quando sentiu que estava grávida, Isabel vibrou de alegria e gratidão a Deus que a poupou da humilhação pública por não ter filhos.

Reflecting the Gospel 

Zechariah and Elizabeth "were righteous before God," and faithful followers of the Lord's commandments. They were very old; and Elizabeth, barren. It is in this simple couple's life that God will do wonders by allowing him to bear a child.
