Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías 40,1-11 – 1Consolai o meu povo, consolai-o! – diz o vosso Deus. 2Falai ao coração de Jerusalém e dizei em alta voz que sua servidão acabou e a expiação de suas culpas foi cumprida; ela recebeu das mãos do Senhor o dobro por todos os seus pecados. 3Grita uma voz: “Preparai no deserto o caminho do Senhor, aplainai na solidão a estrada de nosso Deus. 4Nivelem-se todos os vales, rebaixem-se todos os montes e colinas; endireite-se o que é torto e alisem-se as asperezas: 5a glória do Senhor então se manifestará, e todos os homens verão juntamente o que a boca do Senhor falou”. 6Dizia uma voz: “Grita!” E respondi: “O que devo gritar?” A criatura humana é feno, toda a sua glória é como flor do campo; 7seca o feno, murcha a flor, ao soprar o Senhor sobre eles. Sim, o povo é feno. 8Seca o feno, murcha a flor, mas a palavra de nosso Deus fica para sempre. 9Sobe a um alto monte, tu, que trazes a boa-nova a Sião; levanta com força a tua voz, tu, que trazes a boa-nova a Jerusalém, ergue a voz, não temas; dize às cidades de Judá: “Eis o vosso Deus, 10eis que o Senhor Deus vem com poder, seu braço tudo domina; eis, com ele, sua conquista, eis à sua frente a vitória. 11Como um pastor, ele apascenta o rebanho, reúne, com a força dos braços, os cordeiros e carrega-os ao colo; ele mesmo tange as ovelhas-mães”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 18,12-14 – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: 12“Que vos parece? Se um homem tem cem ovelhas e uma delas se perde, não deixa ele as noventa e nove nas montanhas, para procurar aquela que se perdeu? 13Em verdade vos digo, se ele a encontrar, ficará mais feliz com ela do que com as noventa e nove que não se perderam. 14Do mesmo modo, o Pai que está nos céus não deseja que se perca nenhum desses pequeninos”. – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho
Uma ovelha desaparece: imagem familiar aos conterrâneos de Jesus que lidavam com rebanhos. Inquietação e incessantes buscas por caminhos perigosos são as atitudes do pastor cheio de zelo. Reencontrar a ovelha desgarrada é motivo de festa para seu dono. A figura é logo transferida ao Pai celeste, que se alegra imensamente quando vê um filho ou filha voltar para o aconchego da casa, como acontece na parábola do pai misericordioso (cf. Lc 15,11-32). Jesus, à semelhança do Pai, quer reunir, celebrar o reencontro, reforçar os laços fraternos. Em sua missão, Jesus se movimenta, o tempo todo, a fim de “reunir os filhos de Deus que estavam dispersos” (Jo 11,52). A essa missão dedica tempo, inteligência e forças físicas. Sem se poupar.

Reflecting the Gospel
A sheep disappears: an image familiar to the countrymen of Jesus who dealt with flocks. Restlessness and incessant searching for dangerous ways are the pastor's zealous attitudes. To find the lost sheep is a cause of celebration for its owner. The figure is soon transferred to the heavenly Father, who rejoices immensely when he sees a son or daughter return to the comfort of the house, as in the parable of the merciful father (cf. Lk 15, 11-32). Jesus, like the Father, wants to gather, celebrate the reunion, strengthen fraternal bonds. In his mission, Jesus moves all the time in order "to gather together the children of God that were scattered abroad" (Jn 11:52). This mission devotes time, intelligence and physical strength. Without sparing.
