Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia. Quem me ama realmente guardará minha Palavra, / e meu Pai o amará, e a ele nós viremos (Jo 14,23). –Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 6,1-6.16-18 – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: 1“Ficai atentos para não praticar a vossa justiça na frente dos homens só para serdes vistos por eles. Caso contrário, não recebereis a recompensa do vosso Pai que está nos céus. 2Por isso, quando deres esmola, não toques a trombeta diante de ti, como fazem os hipócritas nas sinagogas e nas ruas, para serem elogiados pelos homens. Em verdade vos digo, eles já receberam a sua recompensa. 3Ao contrário, quando deres esmola, que a tua mão esquerda não saiba o que faz a tua mão direita, 4de modo que a tua esmola fique oculta. E o teu Pai, que vê o que está oculto, te dará a recompensa. 5Quando orardes, não sejais como os hipócritas, que gostam de rezar em pé, nas sinagogas e nas esquinas das praças, para serem vistos pelos homens. Em verdade vos digo, eles já receberam a sua recompensa. 6Ao contrário, quando tu orares, entra no teu quarto, fecha a porta e reza ao teu Pai que está oculto. E o teu Pai, que vê o que está escondido, te dará a recompensa. 16Quando jejuardes, não fiqueis com o rosto triste como os hipócritas. Eles desfiguram o rosto, para que os homens vejam que estão jejuando. Em verdade vos digo, eles já receberam a sua recompensa. 17Tu, porém, quando jejuares, perfuma a cabeça e lava o rosto, 18para que os homens não vejam que tu estás jejuando, mas somente teu Pai, que está oculto. E o teu Pai, que vê o que está escondido, te dará a recompensa”. – Palavra da salvação.

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Whoever loves me will really keep my Word, / and my Father will love him, and we will come to him (Jn 14,23). –Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 6,1-6,16-18 - At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: 1 “Be careful not to practice your justice in front of men just to be seen by them. Otherwise, you will not receive the reward from your Father in heaven. 2 Therefore, when you give alms, do not blow the trumpet before you, as hypocrites do in synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they have already received their reward. 3On the contrary, when you give alms, let your left hand not know what your right hand does, 4 so that your alms are hidden. And your Father, who sees what is hidden, will give you the reward. 5When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, who like to pray standing in synagogues and on the corners of squares, to be seen by men. Truly I tell you, they have already received their reward. 6On the contrary, when you pray, enter your room, close the door and pray to your Father who is hidden. And your Father, who sees what is hidden, will give you the reward. 16 When you fast, do not keep your face sad like the hypocrites. They disfigure their faces so that men can see that they are fasting. Truly I tell you, they have already received their reward. 17 But when you fast, perfume your head and wash your face, 18 so that men will not see that you are fasting, but only your Father, who is hidden. And your Father, who sees what is hidden, will give you the reward ”. - Word of salvation.

Reflexão

Se praticamos boas obras só para sermos vistos e aplaudidos pelos outros, corremos duplo perigo. Antes de tudo, porque as pessoas podem ignorar nossos feitos. Então, ficamos frustrados e aborrecidos. Depois, mesmo admirando nossas boas obras, as pessoas são incapazes de valorizar-nos suficientemente ou recompensar-nos à altura do que fazemos. Nesse caso, a decepção é profunda. Melhor seguir a estrada indicada por Jesus: pensar e agir, não para receber elogios humanos, mas para oferecer tudo ao Pai, que vê também o que está oculto e conhece as intenções do coração de cada pessoa. Só Deus tem o poder de nos recompensar devidamente.

Reflection

If we do good works just to be seen and applauded by others, we are in double danger. First of all, because people can ignore our deeds. So, we get frustrated and upset. Then, even admiring our good deeds, people are unable to value us sufficiently or reward us to match what we do. In that case, the disappointment is profound. Better to follow the path indicated by Jesus: to think and act, not to receive human praise, but to offer everything to the Father, who also sees what is hidden and knows the intentions of each person's heart. Only God has the power to reward us properly.

Rezando 
Ensina-nos, Senhor, a proceder com humildade, para agradar ao Pai celeste, que conhece o nosso íntimo e pode nos recompensar como lhe aprouver. Pai nosso, que estás no céu, santificado seja o Teu nome. Venha a nós o Teu reino, seja feita a Tua vontade assim na terra como no céu. O pão nosso de cada dia nos dai hoje. Perdoa-nos as nossas ofensas assim como nós perdoamos a quem nos tem ofendido; e não nos deixes cair em tentação, mas livra-nos do mal. Amém.

Praying 

Teach us, Lord, to proceed with humility, to please the heavenly Father, who knows our innermost self and can reward us as he sees fit. Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us our daily bread today. Forgive us our offenses just as we forgive those who have offended us; and do not let us fall into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
