Nativity of St. John the Baptist.

1a.Leitura -  Isaías 49,1-6

Leitura do livro do profeta Isaías – ¹ Nações marinhas, ouvi-me; povos distantes, prestai atenção: o Senhor chamou-me antes de eu nascer, desde o ventre de minha mãe ele tinha na mente o meu nome; ² fez de minha palavra uma espada afiada, protegeu-me à sombra de sua mão e fez de mim uma flecha aguçada, escondida em sua aljava, ³ e disse-me: “Tu és o meu servo, Israel, em quem serei glorificado”. ⁴ E eu disse: “Trabalhei em vão, gastei minhas forças sem fruto, inutilmente; entretanto o Senhor me fará justiça e o meu Deus me dará recompensa”. ⁵ E, agora, diz-me o Senhor – ele que me preparou desde o nascimento para ser seu servo – que eu recupere Jacó para ele e faça Israel unir-se a ele; aos olhos do Senhor, esta é a minha glória. ⁶ Disse ele: “Não basta seres meu servo para restaurar as tribos de Jacó e reconduzir os remanescentes de Israel: eu te farei luz das nações, para que minha salvação chegue até os confins da terra”. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st Reading - Isaías 49,1-6

Evangelho - Lucas 1,57-66.80

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas – ⁵⁷ Completou-se o tempo da gravidez de Isabel, e ela deu à luz um filho. ⁵⁸ Os vizinhos e parentes ouviram dizer como o Senhor tinha sido misericordioso para com Isabel e alegraram-se com ela. ⁵⁹ No oitavo dia, foram circuncidar o menino e queriam dar-lhe o nome de seu pai, Zacarias. ⁶⁰ A mãe, porém, disse: “Não! Ele vai chamar-se João”. ⁶¹ Os outros disseram: “Não existe nenhum parente teu com esse nome!” ⁶² Então fizeram sinais ao pai, perguntando como ele queria que o menino se chamasse. ⁶³ Zacarias pediu uma tabuinha e escreveu: “João é o seu nome”. E todos ficaram admirados. ⁶⁴ No mesmo instante, a boca de Zacarias se abriu, sua língua se soltou e ele começou a louvar a Deus. ⁶⁵ Todos os vizinhos ficaram com medo, e a notícia espalhou-se por toda a região montanhosa da Judeia. ⁶⁶ E todos os que ouviam a notícia ficavam pensando: “O que virá a ser este menino?” De fato, a mão do Senhor estava com ele. ⁸⁰ E o menino crescia e se fortalecia em espírito. Ele vivia nos lugares desertos, até o dia em que se apresentou publicamente a Israel. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Mateus 11,25-30

Refletindo o Evangelho  

O culto a São João Batista remonta aos primeiros séculos do cristianismo. João, denominado Batista, é filho de Zacarias, o mudo, e de Isabel, a estéril. Seu nascimento anuncia a chegada dos tempos messiânicos, em que a esterilidade se torna fecunda e o mutismo se faz exuberância profética. Todos os vizinhos perguntavam: “O que esse menino vai ser?”. Zacarias eleva seu cântico de reconhecimento, profetizando a grande missão de João: “E tu, menino, serás chamado profeta do Altíssimo, pois irás à frente do Senhor para preparar os caminhos dele, e para dar a seu povo o conhecimento da salvação, mediante o perdão dos pecados” (Lc 1,76-77). Segundo avaliação do próprio Jesus, João é o maior dos profetas de Israel: “Entre os nascidos de mulher, não apareceu ninguém maior do que João Batista” (Mt 11,11).

Reflecting the Gospel
"Wise and understood" are powerful leaders, who refuse to recognize the ways of God. They are not humble, no respect for God. Are insensitive to the revelation of God and defenders of their own interests. Not willing to hear and practice the teachings of Jesus. They are self-reliant. The term "little people" refers to the small community of disciples who had answered the call of Jesus (the Group of apostles); but, in General, applies to all hosting the saving presence of Jesus and your Kingdom. Senhor, vós me sondais e conheceis, † sabeis quando me sento ou me levanto; de longe penetrais meus pensamentos; percebeis quando me deito e quando eu ando, os meus caminhos vos são todos conhecidos. Fostes vós que me formastes as entranhas, e no seio de minha mãe vós me tecestes. Eu vos louvo e vos dou graças, ó Senhor, porque de modo admirável me formastes! Praying
