29/2 🇧🇷Evangelho do dia 🇺🇸Gospel of the day

Those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but the sick do.

Evangelho

Gospel
Glory to you, Lord Jesus, / firstborn from the dead! I do not want the sinner's death, says the Lord, / but that he should return, be converted and have life (Ez 33,11). - Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 5,27-32 - At that time, 27Jesus saw a tax collector, named Levi, sitting at the tax office. Jesus said to him, "Follow me." 28 Levi left everything, got up and followed him. 29Then Levi prepared a great feast for Jesus at home. A large number of tax collectors and other people were sitting at the table with them. 30The Pharisees and their teachers of the law murmured and said to Jesus' disciples, "Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?" 31Jesus replied: “Those who are healthy do not need a doctor, but those who are sick. 32I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners for conversion ”. - Word of salvation.

Reflection
Tax collectors were frowned upon for being at the service of Roman authority: they took advantage of their craft to enrich themselves at the expense of the people. "The Pharisees and their doctors of the Law" called them "sinners". For this reason, Jesus takes a bold step in inviting one of these inspectors to be part of his group of followers and accepts the invitation to eat at his home. The Pharisees, who classify people as pure or impure, feel provoked. They question the Master, who clarifies his mission: "I did not come to call the just, but sinners, for conversion". Levi is a model of the repentant and forgiven sinner who becomes an apostle (Matthew).
