01/3 🇧🇷Evangelho do dia 🇺🇸Gospel of the day

Adorarás ao Senhor teu Deus e somente a ele prestarás culto.
You will worship the Lord your God and worship him alone.

Evangelho

Gospel
Praise and glory to you, Lord, Christ, Word of God. Man does not live by bread alone, / but by every word of God's mouth (Mt 4,4). - Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 4,1-11 - At that time, 1st Spirit led Jesus into the desert, to be tempted by the devil. 2Jesus fasted for forty days and forty nights, and after that he was hungry. 3Then the tempter came and said to Jesus: "If you are the Son of God, order these stones to become bread!" 4But Jesus replied: "It is written: 'Man does not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of God'". 5Then the devil took Jesus to the holy city, placed him on the highest part of the temple 6 and said to him: “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here! Because it is written: "God will give orders to his angels about you, and they will take you in their hands, lest you stumble over any stone". 7Jesus replied, "It is also written, 'You shall not tempt the Lord your God!'" 8 Again, the devil took Jesus to a very high mountain. He showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory 9 and said to him, "I will give you all this if you kneel before me, to worship me." 10Jesus said to him, "Go away, Satan, because it is written: 'You shall worship the Lord your God and worship him alone'." 11Then the devil left him. And the angels came and served Jesus. - Word of salvation.

Reflection
Jesus faces and overcomes temptations, enlightened and strengthened by the Word of God. The evangelist presents three temptations, which are like a synthesis of the challenges that the person (also Jesus) has to face throughout life. Jesus, in a desert of challenges (without water and food), resisted and said “yes” to God. The refusal to God (sin) happens in an environment of delights and pleasures; God's acceptance (salvation) takes the form of renunciation and challenges. In the face of trials, Jesus does not accept to manipulate God or seek privileges.
