17/3 🇧🇷Evangelho do dia 🇺🇸Gospel of the day

I don't tell you seven times, but seventy times seven.

Evangelho
Jesus Cristo, sois bendito, / sois o ungido de Deus Pai! Voltai ao Senhor, vosso Deus; / ele é bom, compassivo e clemente (Jl 2,12s).

Gospel
Jesus Christ, you are blessed, / you are the anointed one of God the Father! Return to the Lord your God; / he is good, compassionate and forgiving (Jl 2,12s). - Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 18: 21-35 - At that time, 21 Peter approached Jesus and asked: “Lord, how many times should I forgive if my brother sins against me? Up to seven times? ” 22Jesus replied, “I don't tell you seven times, but seventy times seven. 23Because the kingdom of heaven is like a king who decided to settle accounts with his servants. 24When the settlement began, they brought him one who owed him an enormous fortune. 25 As the employee had nothing to pay, the boss ordered him to be sold as a slave, along with his wife and children and everything he owned, so that he could pay the debt. 26The employee, however, fell at the boss's feet and, prostrate, pleaded: 'Give me a deadline! And I will pay you everything ’. 27Before that, the boss had compassion, released the employee and forgave him the debt. 28 As he left, that employee found one of his companions who owed him only a hundred coins. He grabbed it and began to choke it, saying: 'Pay what you owe me'. 29The companion, falling at his feet, pleaded: 'Give me a deadline! And I will pay you '. 30But the employee didn't want to know that. He went out and had him thrown in prison, until he paid what he owed. 31 Seeing what had happened, the other employees were very sad, they went to their boss and told him everything. 32Then the boss sent for him and said to him: 'Wicked employee, I forgave you all your debt, because you begged me. 33 Shouldn't you also have compassion on your partner, as I had compassion on you? ’34The boss was indignant and ordered that employee to be handed over to the torturers, until he paid off all his debt. 35 This is how my Father in heaven will do with you if each one does not forgive his brother from the heart ”. - Word of salvation.

Reflection
Jesus seems to take very seriously the need that we have to forgive "seventy times seven", that is, always. This makes us shiver, because in everyday life there seems to be unforgivable offenses. How does a mother manage to forgive her son's murderer? Where to join forces and dispositions for sincere forgiveness in such a serious case? The wound, if it is deep, takes a long time to heal. Therefore, we need to count on divine help, because total forgiveness is only possible with the impulse of God's grace. And the parables prove that the heavenly Father wants and expects us to forgive “from the heart” our fellow men.
