You abandon the commandment of God to follow the tradition of men.

Pharisees and doctors of the Law took care of the details of religious practice. More than doing things to please God, they were fixed on the mere observance of traditional precepts. According to them, it was impure who did not go through the ritual of washing hands, arms, glasses and dishes in general. They hid behind these outer rites and stopped practicing more important things, like taking care of their parents. Sometimes, to make a good impression on society, they were even able to distort God's commandments. Jesus wants to correct this behavior. Every ritual, in fact, if not accompanied by a right intention, becomes useless movement.

1a. Leitura
– Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading of the first book of Kings 8,22-23,27-30 - In those days, 22Salomon stood before the altar of the Lord, in the presence of the whole assembly of Israel, stretched out his hands to heaven and said: 23 “O Lord, God of Israel, there is no God like you, neither in the highest of heavens nor down here on earth; you are faithful to your merciful covenant with your servants, who walk in your presence with all their heart. 27But can God really dwell on the earth? If the highest heavens cannot contain you, much less this house that I built! 28But listen, Lord my God, to your servant's prayer and supplication, and hear the cry and prayer that he does today in your presence. 29Your eyes are open night and day on this house, on the place from which you said: 'Here is my name!' Listen to the prayer that your servant makes you in this place. 30Hear the pleas of your servant and your people Israel when they pray here. Listen to them from the top of your abode in heaven, listen to them and forgive! ”- Word of the Lord.

Salmo 83/84
Quão amável, ó Senhor, é vossa casa!

Psalm 83/84
How lovely, O Lord, is your home!
1. My soul falls short of longing / and longs for the courts of the Lord! / My heart and flesh rejoice / and rejoice in the living God!
2. Even the sparrow finds shelter in your house, † and the swallow there prepares its nest, / to place its young in it: / your altars, O Lord God of the universe! / Your altars, my king and my Lord!
3. Happy are those who live in your house; / they will praise you forever! / Look, O God, that you are our protection, / see the face of the elect, your anointed one!
4. In fact, a single day in your temple / is worth more than thousands outside of it! / I prefer to be on the threshold of your house / to stay in the mansion of sinners!

Evangelho
Aleluia, aleluia, aleluia.

Gospel
Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah. Incline my heart to your warnings / and give me your law as a valuable gift! (Ps 118,36.29) –Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to Mark 7,1-13 - At that time, the Pharisees and some teachers of the law came from Jerusalem and gathered around Jesus. 2They saw that some of their disciples were eating bread with unclean hands, that is, without having washed them. 3 Indeed, the Pharisees and all Jews only eat after washing their hands thoroughly, following the tradition received from the ancients. 4 Upon returning from the square, they do not eat without bathing. And they follow many other customs that they received by tradition: the right way to wash copper cups, jars and vessels. 5The Pharisees and the teachers of the law then asked Jesus: “Why do your disciples not follow the tradition of the ancients, but eat bread without washing their hands?” 6Jesus replied: “Well Isaiah prophesied of you, hypocrites, how is it? written: 'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 There is no point in worshiping me, because the doctrines they teach are human precepts'. 8You abandon the commandment of God to follow the tradition of men ”. 9And he said to them: “You know very well how to annul God's command in order to keep your traditions. 10Moses ordered, 'Honor your father and your mother'. And yet: 'Whoever curses the father or mother must die'. 11But you teach that it is lawful for someone to say to their father and mother: ‘The support you could receive from me is Corban, that is, consecrated to God’. 12And that person is exempt from helping his father or mother. 13 So you empty the word of God with the tradition that you transmit. And you do many other things like these ”. - Word of salvation.
