Ask and you will receive.

Vendo o Jesus rezar, um discípulo lhe pede que os ensine a rezar, como os rabinos faziam. Diante da pergunta do discípulo, o Mestre lhes oferece um modelo de oração, o Pai-nosso. O primeiro aspecto dessa oração é nossa filiação divina. Dirigimo-nos a Deus como a um pai. Além disso, o pai-nosso contém outros cinco elementos: os dois primeiros nos levam à abertura para Deus; os três últimos têm a ver conosco e com o próximo. Pedimos que o nome de Deus seja santificado; e pedimos a vinda de seu Reino. Depois pedimos o que é necessário no dia a dia; pedimos o perdão e a reconciliação com os nossos devedores; por fim, pedimos que o Pai nos afaste das tentações e nos livre do mal. A parábola em seguida, nos ensina a perseverar na oração, a confiar no Pai, o qual nos oferece o Espírito para discernir o que é mais importante para a vida.

Seeing Jesus pray, a disciple asks him to teach them to pray, as the rabbis did. In the face of the disciple's question, the master offers them a model of prayer, the father-our. The first aspect of this prayer is our divine affiliation. We drive to God like a father. Leitura do livro do Gênesis 18,20-32 – Naqueles dias, 20o Senhor disse a Abraão: “O clamor contra Sodoma e Gomorra cresceu, e agravou-se muito o seu pecado. 21Vou descer para verificar se as suas obras correspondem ou não ao clamor que chegou até mim”. 22Partindo dali, os homens dirigiram-se a Sodoma, enquanto Abraão ficou na presença do Senhor. 23Então, aproximando-se, disse Abraão: “Vais realmente exterminar o justo com o ímpio? 24Se houvesse cinquenta justos na cidade, acaso irias exterminá-los? Não pouparias o lugar por causa dos cinquenta justos que ali vivem? 25Longe de ti agir assim, fazendo morrer o justo com o ímpio, como se o justo fosse igual ao ímpio. Longe de ti! O juiz de toda a terra não faria justiça?” 26O Senhor respondeu: “Se eu encontrasse em Sodoma cinquenta justos, pouparia por causa deles a cidade inteira”. 27Abraão prosseguiu, dizendo: “Estou sendo atrevido em falar a meu Senhor, eu que sou pó e cinza. 28Se dos cinquenta justos faltassem cinco, destruirias, por causa dos cinco, a cidade inteira?” O Senhor respondeu: “Não destruiria se achasse ali quarenta e cinco justos”. 29Insistiu ainda Abraão e disse: “E se houvesse quarenta?” Ele respondeu: “Por causa dos quarenta, não o faria”. 30Abraão tornou a insistir: “Não se irrite o meu Senhor se ainda falo. E se houvesse apenas trinta justos?” Ele respondeu: “Também não o faria se encontrasse trinta”. 31Tornou Abraão a insistir: “Já que me atrevi a falar a meu Senhor, e se houver vinte justos?” Ele respondeu: “Não a iria destruir por causa dos vinte”. 32Abraão disse: “Que o meu Senhor não se irrite se eu falar só mais uma vez: e se houvesse apenas dez?” Ele respondeu: “Por causa dos dez, não a destruiria”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Naquele dia em que gritei, vós me escutastes, ó Senhor! 
– Ó Senhor, de coração eu vos dou graças / porque ouvistes as palavras dos meus lábios! / Perante os vossos anjos vou cantar-vos / e ante o vosso templo vou prostrar-me. 
– Eu agradeço vosso amor, vossa verdade, / porque fizestes muito mais que prometestes; / naquele dia em que gritei, vós me escutastes / e aumentastes o vigor da minha alma. 
– Altíssimo é o Senhor, mas olha os pobres / e de longe reconhece os orgulhosos. / Se no meio da desgraça eu caminhar, / vós me fazeis tornar à vida novamente; / quando os meus perseguidores me atacarem / e com ira investirem contra mim, / estendereis o vosso braço em meu auxílio / e havereis de me salvar com vossa destra.

Psalm 137/138

That day I shouted, you listened to me, O Lord! 
– O Lord, in my heart I give you thanks/because you have heard the words of my lips! /Before your Angels I will sing to you/and before your Temple I will prostrate myself. 
– I thank your love, your truth,/because you have done much more than you promised; /That day I cried, you listened to me/and increased the vigor of my soul. 
– The most high is the Lord, but look at the poor/and by far recognizes the proud. /If in the midst of misfortune I walk,/ye make me to life again; /When my pursuers attack me/and with wrath invest against me,/you will put your arm in my aid/and you will save me with your right hand.

Leitura da carta de são Paulo aos Colossenses 2,12-14 – Irmãos, 12com Cristo fostes sepultados no batismo; com ele também fostes ressuscitados por meio da fé no poder de Deus, que ressuscitou a Cristo dentre os mortos. 13Ora, vós estáveis mortos por causa dos vossos pecados, e vossos corpos não tinham recebido a circuncisão, até que Deus vos trouxe para a vida, junto com Cristo, e a todos nós perdoou os pecados. 14Existia contra nós uma conta a ser paga, mas ele a cancelou, apesar das obrigações legais, e a eliminou, pregando-a na cruz. – Palavra do Senhor.

Quando terminou, um de seus discípulos pediu-lhe: “Senhor, ensina-nos a rezar, como também João ensinou a seus discípulos”. 2Jesus respondeu: “Quando rezardes, dizei: ‘Pai, santificado seja o teu nome.
