I want mercy, not sacrifice.
O sábado era instituição religiosa na época de Jesus, que Ele próprio sempre respeitou e praticou. A mesma atitude ele adotou em relação a outras instituições da religião. Mas às vezes ele as colocava em questão. O que Jesus questionava não era a instituição religiosa em si, mas a escala de valores daqueles que tornavam absoluto o que era relativo e esqueciam o que era mais importante. O centro é a pessoa. As leis foram criadas para favorecê-la e ajudá-la a viver dignamente. Se não cumpre tal objetivo, de que vale tal lei? O verdadeiro culto agradável a Deus se expressa mediante obras de misericórdia: “Quero misericórdia e não sacrifício”.
