Quem não toma a sua cruz e não me segue não é digno de mim.

Those who do not take their cross and do not follow me is not worthy of me.

Nem todos aceitam as exigências do Reino de justiça e paz que Jesus veio estabelecer neste mundo. Vêm à nossa mente as palavras do velho Simeão, quando da apresentação de Jesus no Templo: “Eis que este menino será causa de queda e reerguimento de muitos em Israel” (Lc 2,34). O próprio Jesus mostra que é de outra natureza a paz que ele nos dá: “A paz que lhes dou não é como a paz que o mundo dá” (Jo 14,27).

Not everyone accepts the demands of the Kingdom of justice and peace that Jesus came to establish in this world. Come to our mind the words of the old Simeon, when Jesus ' presentation in the Temple: "Behold, this boy will be the cause of the fall and reupheaving of many in Israel" (Lk 2.34). Jesus himself shows that it is of another nature the peace that he gives us: "The peace I give them is not like the peace that the world gives" (Jn 14.27).

Leitura do livro do Êxodo 1,8-14.22 – Naqueles dias, 8surgiu um novo rei no Egito, que não tinha conhecido José, 9e disse ao seu povo: “Olhai como o povo dos filhos de Israel é mais numeroso e mais forte do que nós. 10Vamos agir com prudência em relação a ele, para impedir que continue crescendo e, em caso de guerra, se una aos nossos inimigos, combata contra nós e acabe por sair do país”. 11Estabeleceram inspetores de obras, para que o oprimissem com trabalhos penosos; e foi assim que ele construiu para o faraó as cidades-entrepostos Pitom e Ramsés. 12Mas, quanto mais o oprimiam, tanto mais se multiplicava e crescia. 13Obcecados pelo medo dos filhos de Israel, os egípcios impuseram-lhes uma dura escravidão. 14E tornaram-lhes a vida amarga pelo pesado trabalho da preparação do barro e dos tijolos, com toda espécie de trabalhos dos campos e outros serviços que os levavam a fazer à força. 22O faraó deu esta ordem a todo o seu povo: “Lançai ao rio Nilo todos os meninos hebreus recém-nascidos, mas poupai a vida das meninas”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading the Book of Exodus 1,8-14.22 – in those days, 8arose a new king in Egypt, who had not known Joseph, 9and said to his people: "Behold how the people of the children of Israel are more numerous and stronger than us. 10Let US Act prudently in relation to him, to prevent him from continuing to grow, and in the event of war, unite with our enemies, fight against our own and end up leaving the country. Quem ama seu filho ou sua filha mais do que a mim não é digno de mim. 38Quem não toma a sua cruz e não me segue não é digno de mim. 39Quem procura conservar a sua vida vai perdê-la. E quem perde a sua vida por causa de mim vai encontrá-la. 40Quem vos recebe, a mim recebe; e quem me recebe, recebe aquele que me enviou. 41Quem recebe um profeta, por ser profeta, receberá a recompensa de profeta.
