Meu Senhor e meu Deus!

My lord and my God!

Em 4 listas que contêm os nomes dos apóstolos, aparecem nelas o de Tomé: (cf. Mt 10,1-4; Mc 3,13-16; Lc 6,12-16; At 1,13). Foi ele que, com toda franqueza, disse a Jesus: “Senhor, não sabemos para onde vais, como podemos conhecer o caminho?” (Jo 14,6). Tal pergunta deu margem para Jesus proferir solene definição de si mesmo: “Eu sou o caminho, a verdade e a vida. Ninguém chega ao Pai senão por mim” (Jo 14,6). Tomé ficou conhecido, sobretudo, como símbolo da incredulidade: exigiu provas para crer que Jesus tinha ressuscitado. Depois, diante da evidência, expressou sua comovida profissão de fé: “Meu Senhor e meu Deus” (v. 28). Após Pentecostes, segundo o bispo e historiador Eusébio de Cesareia, Tomé evangelizou a Pérsia e a Índia, onde também sofreu o martírio. Que o exemplo desse apóstolo revigore nossa fé em Jesus Cristo

In 4 lists that contain the names of the apostles, the name of Thomas appears in them: (cf. Mt 10.1-4; Mc 3.13-16; Lc 6,12-16; At 1.13). It was he who, in all honesty, said to Jesus, "Lord, we do not know where you go, how can we know the way?" (Jn 14.6). This question gave a margin for Jesus to utter a solemn definition of himself: "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the father but for me "(Jn 14.6). Thomas became known, above all, as a symbol of incredulity: he demanded evidence to believe that Jesus had risen. Then, in the face of the evidence, he expressed his comvida profession of faith: "My lord and my God" (v. 28). After Pentecost, according to Bishop and historian Eusebius of Caesarea, Thomas Evangelized Persia and India, where he also suffered martyrdom. That the example of this apostle invigorate our faith in Jesus Christ.

Leitura da carta de São Paulo aos Efésios 2,19-22 – Irmãos, 19já não sois mais estrangeiros nem migrantes, mas concidadãos dos santos. Sois da família de Deus. 20Vós fostes integrados no edifício que tem como fundamento os apóstolos e os profetas, e o próprio Jesus Cristo como pedra principal. 21É nele que toda a construção se ajusta e se eleva para formar um templo santo no Senhor. 22E vós também sois integrados nessa construção, para vos tornardes morada de Deus pelo Espírito. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading from St Paul's letter to the Ephesians 2,19-22 – Brothers, 19you are no longer foreigners or migrants, but fellow citizens of the Saints. You are from the family of God. 20You have been integrated into the building which is based on the apostles and the Prophets, and Jesus Christ himself as the main stone. 21It Is in him that all construction adjusts and rises to form a holy temple in the Lord. 22And you are also integrated in this building, to become the dwelling place of God by the spirit. – Word of the Lord.

Acreditaste, Tomé, porque me viste. / Felizes os que creem sem ter visto (Jo 20,29). – Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João 20,24-29 – 24Tomé, chamado Dídimo, que era um dos doze, não estava com eles quando Jesus veio. 25Os outros discípulos contaram-lhe depois: “Vimos o Senhor!” Mas Tomé disse-lhes: “Se eu não vir a marca dos pregos em suas mãos, se eu não puser o dedo nas marcas dos pregos e não puser a mão no seu lado, não acreditarei”. 26Oito dias depois, encontravam-se os discípulos novamente reunidos em casa, e Tomé estava com eles. Estando fechadas as portas, Jesus entrou, pôs-se no meio deles e disse: “A paz esteja convosco”. 27Depois disse a Tomé: “Põe o teu dedo aqui e olha as minhas mãos. Estende a tua mão e coloca-a no meu lado. E não sejas incrédulo, mas fiel”. 28Tomé respondeu: “Meu Senhor e meu Deus!” 29Jesus lhe disse: “Acreditaste porque me viste? Bem-aventurados os que creram sem terem visto!” – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel

You believed, Thomas, because you saw me. /Happy those who believe without seeing (Jn 20.29). – Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to John 20,24-29 – 24Tomé, called Didimus, who was one of the twelve, was not with them when Jesus came. 25The Other disciples told him afterwards, "We saw the Lord!" But Thomas said to them, "If I don't see the mark of the nails in your hands, if I don't put my finger on the nail marks and don't put my hand on your side, I won't believe it." 26Eight days later, the disciples were reunited at home, and Thomas was with them. When the doors were closed, Jesus entered, stood in the midst of them, and said: "Peace be with you." 27Then said to Thomas, "Put your finger here and look at my hands. Extend your hand and put it on my side. And do not be unbeliever, but faithful. " 28Tomé replied, "My lord and my God!" 29Jesus said to him, "Did you believe why you saw me?
