Até os ventos e o mar lhe obedecem.

Even the winds and the sea obey him.

Quando por um lado, a barca (figura da Igreja) é tomada por “violenta tempestade”, a ponto de quase afundar; por outro lado, Jesus dorme. Seria o sono de Jesus fruto de cansaço ou oportunidade para revelar-se aos discípulos como Messias, o Filho de Deus? Uma travessia em águas agitadas serviu para Jesus manifestar seu poder sobre as forças da natureza e revelar sua real identidade. A lição parece clara: precisamos fazer de Jesus nosso companheiro de caminhada e missão. Cientes de que ele está conosco, não há por que temer os contratempos. Se a ele recorrermos com fé, ele fará reinar uma “grande calmaria” onde antes havia ameaçadora tempestade. Mensagem de esperança para a Igreja de todos os tempos e lugares.

When on the one hand, the barge (the figure of the church) is taken by "violent storm", to the point of almost sinking; On the other hand, Jesus sleeps. Is it the sleep of Jesus, the fruit of fatigue or opportunity to reveal himself to the disciples as the Messiah, the Son of God? A crossing in agitated waters served Jesus to manifest his power over the forces of nature and reveal his true identity. The lesson seems clear: we need to make Jesus our companion of walking and mission. Aware that he is with us, there is no need to fear the setbacks. If we turn to him in faith, he will reign a "great calm" where there was a threatening storm. Message of hope for the Church of all times and places.

Leitura do livro do Gênesis 19,15-29 – Naqueles dias, 15os anjos insistiram com Ló, dizendo: “Levanta-te, toma tua mulher e tuas duas filhas e sai, para não morreres também por causa das iniquidades da cidade”. 16Como ele hesitasse, os homens tomaram-no pela mão, a ele, à mulher e às duas filhas – pois o Senhor tivera compaixão dele –, fizeram-nos sair e deixaram-nos fora da cidade. 17Uma vez fora, disseram: “Trata de salvar a tua vida. Não olhes para trás nem te detenhas em parte alguma desta região. Mas foge para a montanha, se não quiseres morrer”. 18Ló respondeu: “Não, meu Senhor, eu te peço! 19O teu servo encontrou teu favor e foi grande a tua bondade, salvando-me a vida. Mas receio não poder salvar-me na montanha, antes que a calamidade me atinja e eu morra. 20Eis aí perto uma cidade onde poderei refugiar-me; é pequena, mas aí salvarei a minha vida”. E ele lhe disse: “Pois bem, concedo-te também este favor: não destruirei a cidade de que falas. 22Refugia-te lá depressa, pois nada posso fazer enquanto não tiveres entrado na cidade”. Por isso foi dado àquela cidade o nome de Segor. 23O sol estava nascendo quando Ló entrou em Segor. 24O Senhor fez então chover do céu enxofre e fogo sobre Sodoma e Gomorra. 25Destruiu as cidades e toda a região, todos os habitantes das cidades e até a vegetação do solo. 26Ora, a mulher de Ló olhou para trás e tornou-se uma estátua de sal. 27Abraão levantou-se bem cedo e foi até o lugar onde antes tinha estado com o Senhor. 28Olhando para Sodoma e Gomorra e para toda a região, viu levantar-se da terra uma densa fumaça, como a fumaça de uma fornalha. 29Mas, ao destruir as cidades da região, Deus lembrou-se de Abraão e salvou Ló da catástrofe que arrasou as cidades onde Ló havia morado. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading of the Book of Genesis 19,15-29 – In those days, the 15th Angels insisted on lot, saying, "Arise, take thy wife and thy two daughters, and leave, lest you die also because of the iniquities of the city." 16As He hesited, the men took him by the hand, to him, to the woman and to the two daughters – for the Lord had compassion on him – they made us leave and left us out of the city. 17Once outside, they said: "Try to save your life. Don't look back or stop at any part of this region. But flee to the mountain, if you do not want to die. " 18Ló replied: "No, my lord, I ask thee! 19Your servant found thy favor, and thy kindness was great, saving my life. But I'm afraid I can't save myself on the mountain before the calamity hits me and I die. 20 There is a city nearby where I can take refuge; It's small, but then I'll save my life. " And he said to him, "Well, I also grant you this favor: I will not destroy the city you speak of. 22Refute yourself there quickly, for I can do nothing until you have entered the city. " That's why it was given to that town the name of Segor. 23The Sun was rising when lot entered Segor. 24The Lord made then rain from the sky Brimstone and Fire upon Sodom and Gomorrah. 25Destroyed the cities and the entire region, all the inhabitants of the cities and even the vegetation of the soil. 26Ora, Lot's wife looked back and became a statue of salt. 27Abraham Rose very early and went to the place where he had been with the Lord before. 28Looking At Sodom and Gomorrah and for the whole region, he saw rising from the earth a dense smoke, like the smoke of a furnace. 29But by destroying the cities of the region, God remembered Abraham and saved lot from the catastrophe that devastated the cities where lot had lived. – Word of the Lord.

Jesus, porém, dormia. 25Os discípulos aproximaram-se e o acordaram, dizendo: “Senhor, salva-nos, pois estamos perecendo!” 26Jesus respondeu: “Por que tendes tanto medo, homens fracos na fé?” Então, levantando-se, ameaçou os ventos e o mar, e fez-se uma grande calmaria. 27Os homens ficaram admirados e diziam: “Quem é este homem, que até os ventos e o mar lhe obedecem?” – Palavra da salvação.
