Evangelho - Mateus 5,20-26

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: ²⁰“Se a vossa justiça não for maior que a justiça dos mestres da lei e dos fariseus, vós não entrareis no reino dos céus. ²¹Vós ouvistes o que foi dito aos antigos: ‘Não matarás! Quem matar será condenado pelo tribunal’. ²²Eu, porém, vos digo, todo aquele que se encoleriza com seu irmão será réu em juízo; quem disser ao seu irmão ‘patife!’ será condenado pelo tribunal; quem chamar o irmão de tolo será condenado ao fogo do inferno. ²³Portanto, quando tu estiveres levando a tua oferta para o altar e ali te lembrares que teu irmão tem alguma coisa contra ti, ²⁴deixa a tua oferta ali diante do altar e vai primeiro reconciliar-te com o teu irmão. Só então vai apresentar a tua oferta. ²⁵Procura reconciliar-te com teu adversário, enquanto caminha contigo para o tribunal. Senão o adversário te entregará ao juiz, o juiz te entregará ao oficial de justiça, e tu serás jogado na prisão. ²⁶Em verdade eu te digo, dali não sairás, enquanto não pagares o último centavo”. – Palavra da salvação.

Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to Matthew - At that time Jesus said to his disciples, 20 "If your righteousness is not greater than the righteousness of the teachers of the law and the Pharisees, you shall not enter the kingdom of heaven. 21You heard what was said to the ancients: 'You shall not kill! Whoever kills will be condemned by the court. ' 22But I say unto you, every one that is angry with his brother shall be guilty in judgment; anyone who says to his brother 'rascal' will be condemned by the court; whoever calls a fool's brother will be condemned to hellfire. 23Then when you are taking your offering to the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go first to reconcile with your brother. Only then will present your offer. 25See to be reconciled to your adversary as you walk with you to the tribunal. Otherwise the adversary will hand you over to the judge, the judge will hand you over to the bailiff, and you will be thrown into prison. 26And I say unto thee, Thou shalt not go forth thence till thou payest the last penny. - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Mestres da Lei e fariseus pertenciam ao grupo governante, aliado a Roma, com interesse especial em manter a estrutura social da época, opressora e injusta. Jesus quer uma justiça capaz de transformar a sociedade opressora. Por isso, pede a seus discípulos uma justiça acompanhada de misericórdia e fidelidade (cf. Mt 23,23). Modelo é o Pai celeste que “faz seu sol nascer sobre malvados e bons, e faz chover sobre justos e injustos” (Mt 5,45). O preceito negativo “não matar” estende-se à exigência positiva de reconciliação. Não é possível prestar culto a Deus, se o coração está dominado pelo ódio. Tal culto deixa de ser autêntico e transforma-se em mera caricatura, inútil para Deus e escandalosa para os irmãos.

Reflecting the Gospel

Masters of the Law and Pharisees belonged to the governing group, allied to Rome, with special interest in maintaining the social structure of the time, oppressive and unjust. Jesus wants a justice capable of transforming oppressive society. For this reason he asks his disciples for a justice accompanied by mercy and fidelity (Mt 23, 23). Model is the heavenly Father who "makes his sun rise on the wicked and good, and rains the just and the unjust" (Mt 5:45). The negative precept "do not kill" extends to the positive requirement of reconciliation. It is not possible to worship God if the heart is dominated by hatred. Such a cult ceases to be authentic and becomes a mere caricature, useless to God and scandalous to the brethren.
