1a.Leitura
7Ele disse-me: ‘Conceberás e darás à luz um filho. O menino cresceu, e o Senhor o abençoou. 25O espírito do Senhor começou a agir nele no campo de Dã. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st. Reading
Reading of the Book of Judges 13,2-7,24-25 - In those days, there was a man from Sarah, from the tribe of Dan, called Manué, whose wife was barren. 3The angel of the Lord appeared to the woman and said to her, “You are barren and have had no children, but you will conceive and bear a son. 4Be careful not to drink wine or liquor, or to eat anything unclean, 5 for you will conceive and give birth to a son. His head will not be touched by a razor, because he will be consecrated to the Lord from his mother's womb and will begin to deliver Israel from the hands of the Philistines ”. 6The woman went to say to her husband: “A man of God came to visit me, whose appearance was as terrible as that of an angel of the Lord. I didn't ask him where he came from, nor did he reveal his name to me. 7He said to me: 'You will conceive and give birth to a son. From now on, be careful not to drink wine or liquor or eat anything unclean, as the child will be consecrated to God from his mother's womb until the day of his death '”. 24She gave birth to a son and named him Samson. The boy grew up, and the Lord blessed him. 25The spirit of the Lord began to work in him in the field of Dan. — Word of the Lord.

Salmo 70/71
Porque sois a minha força e meu amparo, † o meu refúgio, proteção e segurança! / Libertai-me, ó meu Deus, das mãos do ímpio.
3. Cantarei vossos portentos, ó Senhor, / lembrarei vossa justiça sem igual! / Vós me ensinastes desde a minha juventude, / e até hoje canto as vossas maravilhas.

Psalm 70/71
May my mouth be filled with praise, / so that I may sing your glory.
1. Be a protective rock for me, / a very safe shelter that will save me! / Because you are my strength and my protection, † my refuge, protection and security! / Deliver me, O my God, from the hand of the wicked.
2. For you are, O Lord God, my hope, / I trust in you since my youth! / You have been my support since before I was born, / since the maternal breast, my support.
3. I will sing your portents, O Lord, / I will remember your unique justice! / You have taught me since my youth, / and to this day I sing your wonders.

Evangelho

Gospel
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke 1,5-25 - 5 In the days of Herod, king of Judea, there lived a priest named Zacharias, from the group of Abia. His wife was a descendant of Aaron and was called Isabel. 6 Both were righteous before God and faithfully obeyed all the commandments and commands of the Lord. 7 They had no children, because Isabel was barren, and they were both old. 8 On one occasion, Zechariah was exercising priestly functions in the temple, for it was his group's turn. 9 According to the custom of the priests, he was drawn to enter the sanctuary and make the incense offering. 10 The whole assembly of the people was outside, praying, while the incense was being offered. 11Then the angel of the Lord appeared to him, standing on the right side of the altar of incense. 12 When Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear came over him. 13But the angel said, “Don't be afraid, Zechariah, because God has heard your supplication. Your wife, Isabel, is going to have a son, and you will name him John. 14You will be happy and happy, and many people will be happy with the boy's birth, 15because he will be great before the Lord. He will not drink wine or fermented drink and, from his mother's womb, he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. 16He will bring many of the people of Israel back to the Lord their God. 17And he must walk ahead of them, with the spirit and power of Elijah, in order to convert the hearts of the fathers to the children and the rebels to the wisdom of the righteous, preparing a happy people for the Lord. 18Then Zacharias asked the angel, “How can I be sure of this? I am old and my wife is old ”. 19The angel replied, “I am Gabriel. I am always in the presence of God and I was sent to give you this good news. 20Behold, you will be speechless and you will not be able to speak until the day when these things happen, because you did not believe my words, which will be fulfilled at the right time ”. 21The people were waiting for Zacharias and marveled at his delay at the sanctuary. 22When he left, he couldn't speak to them. And they realized that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. Zacharias spoke with signs and remained silent. 23After his days of service in the sanctuary ended, Zechariah returned home. 24Some time later, his wife Isabel became pregnant and hid for five months. 25She said, "Here is what the Lord did for me, in the days when he deigned to bring me out of public humiliation!" - Word of salvation.

To think about
Zechariah and Elizabeth “were just before God,” and faithful practitioners of the Lord's commandments. They were very old; and Isabel, sterile. It is in the life of this simple couple that God will do wonders, allowing him to bear a child. Through the archangel Gabriel, God organizes everything, even regarding the name that will be given to him: John, which means "God is compassionate". This boy "will be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother's womb". He will "prepare a willing people for the Lord." Zechariah will rejoice in happiness and "many will rejoice" at the boy's birth. When she felt that she was pregnant, Isabel was thrilled with joy and gratitude to God, who spared her public humiliation for not having children.
