2. Eis que ele é semelhante a uma árvore / que à beira da torrente está plantada; / ela sempre dá seus frutos a seu tempo, † e jamais as suas folhas vão murchar. / Eis que tudo o que ele faz vai prosperar.
3. Mas bem outra é a sorte dos perversos. † Ao contrário, são iguais à palha seca / espalhada e dispersada pelo vento. / Pois Deus vigia o caminho dos eleitos, / mas a estrada dos malvados leva à morte.

Desabafo de Jesus mediante a figura das crianças que fazem capricho: não participam da brincadeira. Jesus aplica a imagem ao comportamento de seus ouvintes. Todo esforço é inútil para levá-los a assumir compromisso com o Reino de Deus inaugurado por Jesus. Nem o rigorismo de João Batista, nem a suavidade do Mestre de Nazaré, nada convence “essa geração” e seus líderes a mudar de vida. Entretanto, as obras que Jesus realiza revelam que ele é o autêntico emissário de Deus.
To think about
