Leitura do livro do Gênesis 49,2.8-10 – Naqueles dias, Jacó chamou seus filhos e disse: 2″Juntai-vos e ouvi, filhos de Jacó, ouvi Israel, vosso pai! 8Judá, teus irmãos te louvarão; pesará tua mão sobre a nuca de teus inimigos, se prostrarão diante de ti os filhos de teu pai. 9Judá, filhote de leão: subiste, meu filho, da pilhagem; ele se agacha e se deita como um leão e como uma leoa; quem o despertará? 10O cetro não será tirado de Judá, nem o bastão de comando dentre seus pés, até que venha aquele a quem pertencem e a quem obedecerão os povos”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading the book of Genesis 49,2.8-10 - In those days, Jacob called his sons and said: 2 ″ Come together and listen, sons of Jacob, listen to Israel, your father! 8Juda, your brothers will praise you; your hand will weigh on the neck of your enemies, your father's sons will bow down before you. 9Judah, lion cub: my son, you have risen from plunder; he squats and lies down like a lion and like a lioness; who will wake him up? 10 The scepter will not be taken from Judah, nor the staff of command between their feet, until the one to whom they belong and to whom the peoples will obey comes ”. - Word of the Lord.

Jesus não é nenhum personagem fictício, inventado para compor uma narrativa. É pessoa real, que entra na história humana e se torna elo significativo da grande corrente de gerações desde Abraão até “José, o esposo de Maria, da qual nasceu Jesus, que é chamado Cristo”. Ao apresentar a lista das gerações, Mateus quer sublinhar lutas, conquistas, derrotas, erros e também a fé de um povo, o povo de Israel. Para os judeus, era importante comprovar que Jesus é descendente de Abraão, nosso pai na fé; e de Davi, o grande líder do povo de Deus: “Acaso não será este o Filho de Davi?” (Mt 12,23). Para nós, é salutar ter a certeza de que Jesus, “nascido de uma mulher” (cf. Gl 4,4), veio morar entre nós e assumiu a condição humana.
To think about
Jesus is not a fictional character, invented to compose a narrative. He is a real person, who enters human history and becomes a significant link in the great chain of generations from Abraham to "Joseph, the husband of Mary, from whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ". In presenting the list of generations, Matthew wants to underline struggles, achievements, defeats, mistakes and also the faith of a people, the people of Israel. For the Jews, it was important to prove that Jesus is a descendant of Abraham, our father in the faith; and David, the great leader of the people of God: "Is this not the Son of David?" (Mt 12.23). For us, it is salutary to be sure that Jesus, “born of a woman” (cf. Gal 4: 4), came to live among us and assumed the human condition.

Ó Jesus Cristo, és o último elo da corrente de gerações que compõem a História da Salvação. És filho de Abraão, nosso pai na fé; és também filho de Davi, o grande líder do povo de Deus. Em tudo assumes a condição humana, menos no pecado. Bem-vindo, Jesus! Finca tua tenda entre nós. Amém.

O Jesus Christ, you are the last link in the chain of generations that make up the History of Salvation. You are the son of Abraham, our father in faith; you are also the son of David, the great leader of God's people. In all you assume the human condition, except in sin. Welcome, Jesus!
