Refletindo o Evangelho
Ana e Joaquim, pais de Maria, avós de Jesus, pertencem ao período
localizado entre o Antigo e o Novo Testamento. Seus nomes não aparecem
na Bíblia, mas nós os aceitamos da tradição. Nomes ricos de significado:
Joaquim significa “Deus concede”, e Ana é o mesmo que “Graça”. Um casal
abençoado por Deus. Desse casal nasce Maria, a bendita entre as
mulheres, a mãe de Jesus, o Filho do Altíssimo. O culto de Sant’Ana é
documentado no Oriente no século VI; no Ocidente, no século X. O culto
de São Joaquim, no século XIV. São Joaquim era deixado discretamente de
lado talvez pela discordância quanto ao seu nome. Pelos frutos se
conhece a árvore, nos ensina Jesus. Pela santidade do fruto-Maria
deduzimos a santidade dos pais, Ana e Joaquim.

Anna and Joachim, parents of Mary, grandparents of Jesus, belong to the period between the Old and New Testaments. Their names do not appear in the Bible, but we accept them from tradition. Names rich in meaning: Joachim means "God bestows," and Ana is the same as "Grace." A couple blessed by God. From this couple is born Mary, the blessed among women, the mother of Jesus, the Son of the Most High. The cult of Sant'Ana is documented in the East in the sixth century; in the West in the tenth century. The cult of St. Joachim in the fourteenth century. St. Joachim was discreetly left aside perhaps because of his disagreement as to his name. Through the fruits we know the tree, Jesus teaches us. By the holiness of the fruit-Mary we deduce the holiness of the parents, Anna and Joachim.
