Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, 46enquanto Jesus estava falando às multidões, sua mãe e seus irmãos ficaram do lado de fora, procurando falar com ele. 47Alguém disse a Jesus: “Olha! Tua mãe e teus irmãos estão aí fora e querem falar contigo”. 48Jesus perguntou àquele que tinha falado: “Quem é minha mãe e quem são meus irmãos?” 49E, estendendo a mão para os discípulos, Jesus disse: “Eis minha mãe e meus irmãos. 50Pois
todo aquele que faz a vontade do meu Pai, que está nos céus, esse é meu
irmão, minha irmã e minha mãe”. – Palavra da salvação.

Proclamation
of the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to Matthew - At that time,
while Jesus was speaking to the multitudes, his mother and his brothers
stood outside, seeking to speak with him. 47 Someone said to Jesus, "Look! Your mother and your brothers are out there and they want to talk to you. " 48Jesus
asked him who had spoken, "Who is my mother and who are my brothers?"
49And stretching out his hand to the disciples, Jesus said, "Behold, my
mother and my brothers. 50For everyone who does the will of my Father who is in heaven is my brother and sister and mother. " - Word of salvation.
Refletindo o Evangelho
O Carmelo é uma elevação montanhosa na Palestina. No século XII, alguns
eremitas retirados nessa montanha teriam fundado a ordem dos Carmelitas,
dedicados à contemplação, sob a proteção de Nossa Senhora. Segundo as
tradições carmelitas, em 16 de julho de 1251, o primeiro geral da Ordem,
São Simão Stock, recebeu das mãos de Maria o escapulário (pequeno
hábito) com a promessa de salvação: quem morresse revestido do
escapulário seria salvo. Difundida com o apoio do povo em diversas
nações, a festa de Nossa Senhora do Carmo (nome comum sinônimo de
Carmelo), em 1726 foi estendida a toda a Igreja pelo Papa Bento XIII. Se
for compreendido com retidão, o escapulário não é outra coisa senão o
sinal exterior do apego interior à Virgem e do compromisso de sermos
fiéis à palavra do Senhor.

Reflecting the Gospel
Carmel is a mountainous elevation in Palestine. In
the twelfth century, some of the hermits removed on this mountain would
have founded the order of the Carmelites, dedicated to contemplation,
under the protection of Our Lady. According to Carmelite
traditions, on July 16, 1251, the first general of the Order, St. Simon
Stock, received from the hands of Mary the scapular (small habit) with
the promise of salvation: anyone who died in the scapular would be
saved. Diffused with the support of the people in several
nations, the feast of Our Lady of Carmel (common name synonymous with
Carmel) in 1726 was extended to the whole Church by Pope Benedict XIII. If
it is understood righteously, the scapular is nothing but the outward
sign of attachment within the Virgin and the commitment to be faithful
to the word of the Lord.
