A messe é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos.
 The harvest is great, but the laborers are few.

Evangelho - Mateus 9,32-38

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, ³²apresentaram a Jesus um homem mudo, que estava possuído pelo demônio. ³³Quando o demônio foi expulso, o mudo começou a falar. As multidões ficaram admiradas e diziam: “Nunca se viu coisa igual em Israel”. ³⁴Os fariseus, porém, diziam: “É pelo chefe dos demônios que ele expulsa os demônios”. ³⁵Jesus percorria todas as cidades e povoados, ensinando em suas sinagogas, pregando o evangelho do reino e curando todo tipo de doença e enfermidade. ³⁶Vendo Jesus as multidões, compadeceu-se delas, porque estavam cansadas e abatidas como ovelhas que não têm pastor. Então disse a seus discípulos: ³⁷“A messe é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. ³⁸Pedi, pois, ao dono da messe que envie trabalhadores para a sua colheita!” – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Matthew 9,18-26

Refletindo o Evangelho

Pequeno recorte da atividade missionária de Jesus. Destacam-se: seu ensinamento (v. 35), a cura de “toda doença”, a compaixão pelas multidões “angustiadas e abandonadas”, e a constatação de que o trabalho pelo Reino de Deus é imenso, faltam operários, então é necessário pedir ao Pai celeste que “envie trabalhadores para a sua colheita”. Não obstante o total empenho de Jesus em benefício da população enferma, pobre e oprimida, surgem os fariseus para insultá-lo. Dizem que ele age pelo poder dos demônios. Atribuição ofensiva e descabida. É pelo poder de Deus que Jesus realiza suas obras. A maioria do povo sabe disso e o manifesta: “As multidões ficaram maravilhadas”. Qual é a sua colaboração para fortalecer, no mundo, o Reino de justiça e paz?
