Estreita é a porta e apertado o caminho que leva à vida!

Evangelho - Mateus 7,6.12-14

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus aos seus discípulos: ⁶“Não deis aos cães as coisas santas nem atireis vossas pérolas aos porcos, para que eles não as pisem com os pés e, voltando-se contra vós, vos despedacem. ¹²Tudo quanto quereis que os outros vos façam, fazei também a eles. Nisto consiste a lei e os profetas. ¹³Entrai pela porta estreita, porque larga é a porta e espaçoso é o caminho que leva à perdição, e muitos são os que entram por ele! ¹⁴Como é estreita a porta e apertado o caminho que leva à vida! E são poucos os que o encontram!” – Palavra da salvação.

Refletindo o Evangelho

O que é sagrado – símbolos, ritos, coisas – entra na esfera de Deus e precisa ser respeitado. Pessoas sem religião por vezes abusam dos símbolos sagrados de outras crenças. Isso é ignorância e desrespeito. Pior ainda é quando o próprio Deus é objeto de blasfêmia. Isso então é intolerável. Jesus resgata, em chave positiva, um princípio comum a muitas culturas: “Façam às pessoas o mesmo que vocês desejam que elas façam a vocês”. É um impulso à prática do amor sem medida. Porta estreita e caminho apertado representam o Reino de Deus. É uma escolha que provoca perseguições. No entanto, é este é “o caminho que leva para a vida”. A porta larga se abre para um caminho espaçoso, sem Deus. Aí impera o egoísmo, e a pessoa, insensível às necessidades alheias, afunda nos bens terrenos. Vida perdida.
 
Reflecting the Gospel

What is sacred - symbols, rites, things - enters the sphere of God and must be respected. People without religion sometimes abuse the sacred symbols of other beliefs. This is ignorance and disrespect. Worse still is when God himself is the object of blasphemy. This is intolerable. Jesus rescues, in a positive key, a principle common to many cultures: "Make people what you want them to do to you." It is an impulse to the practice of love without measure. Narrow gate and narrow path represent the Kingdom of God. It is a choice that causes persecution. However, it is this is "the path that leads to life". The wide door opens onto a spacious, godless path. There selfishness rules, and the person, insensitive to the needs of others, sinks in earthly goods. Lost life.
