Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Lucas – 57Completou-se o tempo da gravidez de Isabel, e ela deu à luz um filho. 58Os vizinhos e parentes ouviram dizer como o Senhor tinha sido misericordioso para com Isabel e alegraram-se com ela. 59No oitavo dia, foram circuncidar o menino e queriam dar-lhe o nome de seu pai, Zacarias. 60A mãe, porém, disse: “Não! Ele vai chamar-se João”. 61Os outros disseram: “Não existe nenhum parente teu com esse nome!” 62Então fizeram sinais ao pai, perguntando como ele queria que o menino se chamasse. 63Zacarias pediu uma tabuinha e escreveu: “João é o seu nome”. E todos ficaram admirados. 64No mesmo instante, a boca de Zacarias se abriu, sua língua se soltou e ele começou a louvar a Deus. 65Todos os vizinhos ficaram com medo, e a notícia espalhou-se por toda a região montanhosa da Judeia. 66E todos os que ouviam a notícia ficavam pensando: “O que virá a ser este menino?” De fato, a mão do Senhor estava com ele. 80E
o menino crescia e se fortalecia em espírito. Ele vivia nos lugares
desertos, até o dia em que se apresentou publicamente a Israel. –
Palavra da salvação.

Proclamation

Elizabeth's pregnancy was fulfilled, and she bore a son. The neighbors and relatives heard how the Lord had been merciful to Elizabeth and rejoiced with her. On the eighth day they went to circumcise the child and wanted to give him the name of his father, Zechariah. But her mother said, "No! He will call himself John. " The
others said, "There is no kin of your own by that name!" 62 Then they
signaled to the father, asking how he wanted the boy to be called. Zacarias asked for a tablet and wrote, "John is his name." And they were all amazed. 64At the very moment Zechariah's mouth opened, his tongue loosened, and he began to praise God. 65 All the neighbors were afraid, and the news spread throughout the mountainous region of Judea. 66And all who heard the news kept thinking, "What will this child be?" Indeed, the hand of the Lord was with him. And the boy grew and strengthened in spirit. He lived in the deserted places, until the day he publicly introduced himself to Israel. - Word of salvation.
Refletindo o Evangelho
Na solenidade da natividade de João Batista, o evangelho não podia ser
outro. Ele nos traz justamente o relato do nascimento do precursor, que
tem muitos traços em comum com o do nascimento de Jesus. O nascimento de
João é uma bênção para os pais, já idosos e Isabel estéril, e motivo de
alegria para a vizinhança. Ainda hoje são João é celebrado com muita
festa e alegria pelo povo brasileiro. O nome João, proposto pela mãe e
confirmado pelo pai, significa “Deus é misericórdia”. Com a chegada de
João, Deus confirma sua misericórdia para com os pobres. Eles são os
portadores do amor misericordioso de Deus Pai. Lá nas periferias, longe
do centro político e religioso, nasce a esperança do povo. Com o
aparecimento de uma criança, surgem a esperança e a dúvida, o que será
dessa criança? Sim, essa criança será o futuro anunciador da
misericórdia divina e o precursor do Messias. Ele cresce e se fortalece
no Espírito do Senhor e, no deserto, se prepara para assumir sua missão,
que era preparar o povo para a chegada de Jesus. Abre os caminhos para
que o Mestre chegue.
