You shall love your neighbor as yourself!

Evangelho - Marcos 12,28-34

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Marcos – Naquele tempo, ²⁸um mestre da lei aproximou-se de Jesus e perguntou-lhe: “Qual é o primeiro de todos os mandamentos?” ²⁹Jesus respondeu: “O primeiro é este: Ouve, ó Israel! O Senhor nosso Deus é o único Senhor. ³⁰Amarás o Senhor teu Deus de todo o teu coração, de toda a tua alma, de todo o teu entendimento e com toda a tua força! ³¹O segundo mandamento é: Amarás o teu próximo como a ti mesmo! Não existe outro mandamento maior do que estes”. ³²O mestre da lei disse a Jesus: “Muito bem, mestre! Na verdade, é como disseste: ele é o único Deus e não existe outro além dele. ³³Amá-lo de todo o coração, de toda a mente e com toda a força e amar o próximo como a si mesmo é melhor do que todos os holocaustos e sacrifícios”. ³⁴Jesus viu que ele tinha respondido com inteligência e disse: “Tu não estás longe do reino de Deus”. E ninguém mais tinha coragem de fazer perguntas a Jesus. – Palavra da salvação.

Proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ According to Mark - At that time a teacher of the law approached Jesus and asked him, "What is the first of all the commandments?" 29 Jesus answered, "The first is this: Hear, O Israel! ! The Lord our God is one Lord. 30 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength. 31The second commandment is: You shall love your neighbor as yourself! There is no other commandment greater than these. " 32The master of the law said to Jesus, "Very well, master! In fact, it is as you said: he is the only God and there is no other besides him. To love him with all your heart, with all your mind and with all your might, and to love your neighbor as yourself is better than all burnt offerings and sacrifices. Refletindo o Evangelho

Até agora, Jesus vem sendo atacado por representantes das autoridades judaicas, com o objetivo de vê-lo cair em contradição ou posicionar-se radicalmente contra o governo. De todas as tramoias, Jesus tem-se livrado de modo brilhante, enquanto nos deixa ensinamentos perenes. No episódio aqui descrito, um doutor da Lei, de boa índole e respeitoso com Jesus, apresenta-lhe uma questão central na lei judaica: Qual é o primeiro de todos os mandamentos? Com a citação de dois textos bíblicos (Dt 6,4-5; Lv 19,18), Jesus harmoniza o amor a Deus com o amor ao próximo. Não se pode amar a Deus sem amar o próximo. E o amor ao próximo é reflexo ou consequência do amor a Deus. Todas as outras leis e tradições estão submetidas a este núcleo. Ensinamento ao alcance de todos. Mais exigente é praticá-lo.

Reflecting the Gospel

So far, Jesus has been attacked by representatives of the Jewish authorities, in order to see him fall into contradiction or to stand radically against the government. Of all the hardships, Jesus has been brilliantly delivered, while he leaves us with perennial teachings. In the episode described here, a good and respectful doctor of the Law presents Jesus with a central question in the Jewish law: What is the first of all the commandments? With the quotation of two biblical texts (Deut 6: 4-5; Lev 19:18), Jesus harmonizes love for God with love of neighbor. You can not love God without loving your neighbor. And love of neighbor is a reflection or consequence of love for God. All other laws and traditions are subject to this core. Teaching within the reach of all. More demanding is to practice it.

Show me your ways, O Lord, and show me your way. Let your truth guide me and lead me, / for you are the God of my salvation. Truth and love are the ways of the Lord / to him who keeps his covenant and his precepts. / The Lord becomes intimate to those who fear him / and makes known his covenant. Psalm 24/25.
