Evangelho - João 5,17-30

Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo João – Naquele tempo, ¹⁷Jesus respondeu aos judeus: “Meu Pai trabalha sempre, portanto também eu trabalho”. ¹⁸Então, os judeus ainda mais procuravam matá-lo, porque, além de violar o sábado, chamava Deus o seu Pai, fazendo-se, assim, igual a Deus. ¹⁹Tomando a palavra, Jesus disse aos judeus: “Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, o Filho não pode fazer nada por si mesmo; ele faz apenas o que vê o Pai fazer. O que o Pai faz, o Filho o faz também. ²⁰O Pai ama o Filho e lhe mostra tudo o que ele mesmo faz. E lhe mostrará obras maiores ainda, de modo que ficareis admirados. ²¹Assim como o Pai ressuscita os mortos e lhes dá a vida, o Filho também dá a vida a quem ele quer. ²²De fato, o Pai não julga ninguém, mas ele deu ao Filho o poder de julgar, ²³para que todos honrem o Filho assim como honram o Pai. Quem não honra o Filho também não honra o Pai, que o enviou. ²⁴Em verdade, em verdade vos digo, quem ouve a minha palavra e crê naquele que me enviou possui a vida eterna. Não será condenado, pois já passou da morte para a vida. ²⁵Em verdade, em verdade, eu vos digo, está chegando a hora, e já chegou, em que os mortos ouvirão a voz do Filho de Deus e os que a ouvirem viverão. ²⁶Porque, assim como o Pai possui a vida em si mesmo, do mesmo modo concedeu ao Filho possuir a vida em si mesmo. ²⁷Além disso, deu-lhe o poder de julgar, pois ele é o Filho do homem. ²⁸Não fiqueis admirados com isso, porque vai chegar a hora em que todos os que estão nos túmulos ouvirão a voz do Filho e sairão: ²⁹aqueles que fizeram o bem ressuscitarão para a vida; e aqueles que praticaram o mal, para a condenação. ³⁰Eu não posso fazer nada por mim mesmo. Eu julgo conforme o que escuto, e meu julgamento é justo, porque não procuro fazer a minha vontade, mas a vontade daquele que me enviou”. – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - John 5,17-30

Proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ according to John - At that time, Jesus answered the Jews, "My Father always works, therefore I also work." 18Then the Jews sought to kill him even more, because, in addition to violating the Sabbath, God called their Father, thus becoming equal to God. 19Then Jesus said to the Jews, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing. What the Father does, the Son does also. The Father loves the Son and shows him everything he does. And he will show him greater works, so that you will be astonished. 21As the Father raises the dead and gives them life, the Son also gives life to whom he wants. 22 For the Father judges no one, but he has given the Son the power to judge, 23 so that all may honor the Son as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent him. 24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life. He will not be condemned, for he has passed from death to life. 25 Verily, verily, I say unto you, the hour is come, and is come, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that hear shall live. 26For as the Father hath life in himself, so hath he granted unto the Son to possess life in himself. 27 Moreover he gave him the power to judge, for he is the Son of man. 28 Do not be astonished at this, for the time will come when all who are in the tombs will hear the voice of the Son and will go out: those who have done good will rise to life; and those who have done evil, to condemnation. 30I can not do anything for myself. I judge according to what I hear, and my judgment is just, because I do not seek to do my will, but the will of him who sent me. " - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Os judeus queriam matar Jesus, “não somente porque violava o sábado, mas também porque dizia que Deus era seu Pai, fazendo-se assim igual a Deus”. Com efeito, o Pai e o Filho são iguais: na ação (“O Filho… faz apenas o que vê o Pai fazendo”); no ter vida (“Assim como o Pai tem a vida em si próprio… concedeu ao Filho ter a vida em si próprio”); no dar a vida (“Assim como o Pai… dá a vida, o Filho também dá a vida”); em ser honrados (“Para que todos honrem o Filho da mesma forma que honram o Pai”). As obras do Pai são: a criação, a libertação e a conservação do povo ao longo da história. Quais são as obras do Filho? Muitos sinais, milagres e “obras maiores do que estas”. Entre elas, a grande obra de ressuscitar os mortos e de julgar a todos no fim dos tempos.

Reflecting the Gospel

The Jews wanted to kill Jesus, "not only because he violated the Sabbath, but also because he said that God was their Father, making himself equal with God."
