Evangelho - 1 Coríntios 11,23-26

Leitura da primeira carta de são Paulo aos Coríntios – Irmãos, ²³o que eu recebi do Senhor, foi isso que eu vos transmiti: na noite em que foi entregue, o Senhor Jesus tomou o pão ²⁴e, depois de dar graças, partiu-o e disse: “Isto é o meu corpo que é dado por vós. Fazei isto em minha memória”. ²⁵Do mesmo modo, depois da ceia, tomou também o cálice e disse: “Este cálice é a nova aliança, em meu sangue. Todas as vezes que dele beberdes, fazei isto em minha memória”. ²⁶Todas as vezes, de fato, que comerdes desse pão e beberdes desse cálice, estareis proclamando a morte do Senhor, até que ele venha. – Palavra do Senhor.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Na última ceia com seus discípulos, Jesus anuncia que sua hora chegou. Diante da iminência de sua eliminação, realiza o gesto do lava-pés. Ao invés da instituição da eucaristia, João narra um gesto de serviço. O relato do evangelho apresenta um tríplice conteúdo. O sentido do tempo: Jesus reconhece que chegou sua hora. A relação de amor pelos discípulos: amou os seus até o fim, não excluindo nem o traidor. A relação de comunhão com o Pai: Jesus sabia que o Pai lhe colocara tudo nas mãos. Em meio ao jantar, Jesus se levanta e começa a lavar os pés dos discípulos. Vivendo conscientemente sua páscoa (passagem), ele se apresenta como servo ao assumir o serviço do lava-pés, tarefa dos escravos. O gesto do Mestre mostra claramente que seu amor até o fim não consiste apenas em palavras bonitas, mas, muito mais, é serviço prestado aos irmãos e irmãs. A reação de Pedro mostra que ele não está disposto a assumir o projeto de Jesus, que propõe uma comunidade de iguais, onde não há privilegiados. Em outras palavras, todo seguidor de Jesus deve estar disposto a amar a todos com gestos concretos.

Reflecting the Gospel

At the last supper with his disciples, Jesus announces that his time has come. Faced with the imminence of its elimination, it realizes the gesture of the foot-washing. Instead of the institution of the Eucharist, John narrates a gesture of service. The account of the gospel presents a threefold content. The sense of time: Jesus acknowledges that his time has come. The love relationship for the disciples: He loved his own to the end, not excluding the traitor. The relationship of communion with the Father: Jesus knew that the Father had put everything in his hands. In the middle of dinner, Jesus stands up and begins to wash the disciples' feet. Consciously living his Passover, he presents himself as a servant by assuming the service of the foot-washing, the task of the slaves. The Master's gesture clearly shows that his love to the end does not consist only of beautiful words, but, much more, it is service to his brothers and sisters. Peter's reaction shows that he is not willing to take on the project of Jesus, who proposes a community of equals, where there are no privileges. In other words, every follower of Jesus must be willing to love everyone with concrete gestures.
