My God, have mercy on me, for I am a sinner!

Evangelho -
Lucas 18,9-14

Gospel - Luke18, 9-14
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Luke - At that time, Jesus told this parable to some who trusted in their own righteousness and despised others: 10 "Two men went up to the temple to pray: one was a Pharisee, the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed in his heart: "O God, I thank you that I am not like other men, thieves, dishonest, adulterers, or like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week, and give tithes of all my income. The tax collector, however, stood at a distance and did not even dare raise his eyes to the sky; but he beat his breast, saying, 'My God, have mercy on me, for I am a sinner!' 14I tell you, the latter returned home justified, not the other. For he who rises will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be lifted up. " - Word of salvation.

Refletindo o Evangelho

Reflecting the Gospel
Nothing is more inconvenient than a person judging himself righteous, holy, without defects. It is worse when she puts herself above others and despises them. Jesus, through a timely parable, tries to correct this deviation. It chooses two characteristic types of the time: a Pharisee, who considers himself fair and faithful observant of the Law of God; and a tax collector, despised by the Pharisees, and rejected as a sinner. The Pharisee, before God, counts advantages of his attitudes. Being virtuous is not a title of honor, it is a simple obligation. In the judgment of the Master, the Pharisee is reproved. The tax collector puts himself in his place: every human being is imperfect. Then acknowledge his faults and ask forgiveness of the merciful God. Receive the approval of Jesus.

Rezando
Tende piedade, ó meu Deus, misericórdia! / Na imensidão de vosso amor, purificai-me! / Lavai-me todo inteiro do pecado / e apagai completamente a minha culpa! Salmo 50/51.

Rezando
Have mercy on me, O my God! / In the immensity of your love, purify me! / Wash away all of sin / and completely blot out my guilt! For the sacrifices are not pleasing to you, and if you offer a burnt offering, you reject it. / My sacrifice is my penitent soul, / do not despise a repentant heart! Be benign with Zion, by your grace, / rebuild Jerusalem and its walls! / And ye shall receive the true sacrifice, / the burnt offerings and oblation at your altar! Psalm 50/51.
