Quem não carrega sua cruz não pode ser meu discípulo.
Who does not carry your cross cannot be my disciple.

1a. Leitura - Romanos 13,8-10
Leitura da carta de são Paulo aos Romanos – Irmãos, ⁸ não fiqueis devendo nada a ninguém, a não ser o amor mútuo, pois quem ama o próximo está cumprindo a lei. ⁹ De fato, os mandamentos: “Não cometerás adultério”, “não matarás”, “não roubarás”, “não cobiçarás” e qualquer outro mandamento se resumem neste: “Amarás a teu próximo como a ti mesmo”. ¹⁰ O amor não faz nenhum mal contra o próximo. Portanto, o amor é o cumprimento perfeito da lei. – Palavra do Senhor.

1st Reading - Romans 13,8-10

Caso contrário, ²⁹ ele vai lançar o alicerce e não será capaz de acabar. E todos os que virem isso começarão a caçoar, dizendo: ³⁰ ‘Este homem começou a construir e não foi capaz de acabar!’ ³¹ Ou ainda, qual o rei que, ao sair para guerrear com outro, não se senta primeiro e examina bem se, com dez mil homens, poderá enfrentar o outro que marcha contra ele com vinte mil? ³² Se ele vê que não pode, enquanto o outro rei ainda está longe, envia mensageiros para negociar as condições de paz. ³³ Do mesmo modo, portanto, qualquer um de vós, se não renunciar a tudo o que tem, não pode ser meu discípulo!” – Palavra da salvação.

Gospel - Luke 14,25-33

Refletindo o Evangelho  
Jesus exige disponibilidade total de quem quer segui-lo. Não se trata de passar algumas horas com o Mestre para ouvir dele uma palestra interessante; tampouco consiste em assistir a uma sessão de curas espetaculares, capazes de despertar a admiração dos espectadores ou deixá-los boquiabertos. Seguir a Jesus implica abandonar todas as seguranças, representadas pela família e pela própria vida, isto é, por um estilo de vida que comporta administração de bens, ligada não raro à prática da injustiça. Portanto, o que se requer do discípulo é sua total disponibilidade para segui-lo até a morte por causa da justiça. Em nenhum momento, Jesus diz que essa escolha é fácil. Por isso, ele recomenda, mediante as duas parábolas, que se façam os cálculos corretos antes de tomar a decisão de segui-lo.

Reflecting the Gospel 

Jesus requires total availability of who wants to follow him.
