Dai, pois, a César o que é de César e a Deus o que é de Deus.
Give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what belongs to God.
1a. Leitura - Isaías 45,1.4-6
1st Reading - Isaiah 45,1.4-6
Reading the book of the Prophet Isaiah - 1 That tells you about Cyrus, your anointed one: "I took him by the hand to submit people to your domain, double the pride of Kings, open all the doors to your gait and to keep locking up the gates. 4 because of my servant Jacob and my elected Israel, I called you by name; I booked you, and don't recognize me. 5 I am the Lord, there is no other: out of me there is no god. Set you Warrior, without me noticing, 6 for everyone to know, from East to West, that out of me the other doesn't exist. I am the Lord, there is no other ". -The word of the Lord.
Evangelho - Mateus 22,15-21
Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew – at that time, 15 the Pharisees made a plan to catch Jesus in Word. 16 So they sent their disciples, along with some of Herod's Party, to say to Jesus, "master, we know that you are true and that, in fact, teach the way of God. Don't let yourself influence by the opinions of others, do you think a man by appearances. 17 tell us therefore, what do you think: is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not? " 18 Jesus realized their evil and said: "Hypocrites! Why should I prepare a trap? 19 shew me the tax currency. " They took him the coin. 20 and Jesus said, "who is the figure and the inscription of this coin?" 21 they replied: "Caesar". Jesus then said to them, "give to Caesar what is Caesar's and unto God what is God". -The word of salvation.
Pharisees and herodianos join with well-defined intention: "to catch Jesus in word". The Pharisees were contrary to the rule of Rome; the herodianos in favour. The opening words that they drive the Jesus correspond to the truth ("we know that thou art true..."), but on their lips reveal falsehood and irony. In fact, if they wanted to be disciples of Jesus, I would they set snares. Pay taxes to the emperor was accept him as a deity. How could a Jew, God worshiper only, pay this tax? Jesus introduces something new: the absolute power of God. The Roman Emperor pays tribute ("render unto Caesar ..."), since the people are under your domain, but you can't sacrifice the people with heavy taxes, because the people belongs to God Almighty ("render unto God what is God").
Salmo 95/96.
Sing to the Lord God a new corner,/sing to the Lord God, o Earth! /Manifestai to your glory among the Nations, among the peoples of the universe, its wonders! Because God is great and worthy of praise,/is more terrible and larger than the other gods,/because nothing are the gods of the Gentiles. /It was you and our God who made the heavens. O family of Nations, give to the Lord,/o Nations, power and glory to the Lord,/give him the glory that is due to your name! /Offer a sacrifice in their atriums. Worship in the splendor of Holiness,/whole earth, estremecei before him. /Publicai among the Nations, "the Lord Reigns!",/because the people he judges righteously. Psalm 95/96.
