Leitura da profecia de Ezequiel 34,11-12.15-17 – 11Assim diz o Senhor Deus: “Vede! Eu mesmo vou procurar minhas ovelhas e tomar conta delas. 12Como o pastor toma conta do rebanho, de dia, quando se encontra no meio das ovelhas dispersas, assim vou cuidar de minhas ovelhas e vou resgatá-las de todos os lugares em que foram dispersadas num dia de nuvens e escuridão. 15Eu mesmo vou apascentar as minhas ovelhas e fazê-las repousar – oráculo do Senhor Deus. 16Vou procurar a ovelha perdida, reconduzir a extraviada, enfaixar a da perna quebrada, fortalecer a doente e vigiar a ovelha gorda e forte. Vou apascentá-las conforme o direito. 17Quanto a vós, minhas ovelhas – assim diz o Senhor Deus –, eu farei justiça entre uma ovelha e outra, entre carneiros e bodes”. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading Ezekiel's prophecy 34,11-12.15-17 - 11So says the Lord God: “See! I myself will look for my sheep and take care of them. 12As the shepherd takes care of the flock by day, when he is in the midst of the scattered sheep, so I will take care of my sheep and I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness. 15I will myself feed my sheep and make them rest - oracle of the Lord God. 16I will look for the lost sheep, bring back the stray, bandage the one with the broken leg, strengthen the patient and watch the fat and strong sheep. Proclamação do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 25,31-46 – Naquele tempo, disse Jesus a seus discípulos: 31“Quando o Filho do Homem vier em sua glória, acompanhado de todos os anjos, então se assentará em seu trono glorioso. 32Todos os povos da terra serão reunidos diante dele, e ele separará uns dos outros, assim como o pastor separa as ovelhas dos cabritos. 33E colocará as ovelhas à sua direita e os cabritos à sua esquerda. 34Então o Rei dirá aos que estiverem à sua direita: ‘Vinde, benditos de meu Pai! Recebei como herança o Reino que meu Pai vos preparou desde a criação do mundo! 35Pois eu estava com fome e me destes de comer; eu estava com sede e me destes de beber; eu era estrangeiro e me recebestes em casa; 36eu estava nu e me vestistes; eu estava doente e cuidastes de mim; eu estava na prisão e fostes me visitar’. 37Então os justos lhe perguntarão: ‘Senhor, quando foi que te vimos com fome e te demos de comer? Com sede e te demos de beber? 38Quando foi que te vimos como estrangeiro e te recebemos em casa, e sem roupa e te vestimos? 39Quando foi que te vimos doente ou preso e fomos te visitar?’ 40Então o Rei lhes responderá: ‘Em verdade eu vos digo que, todas as vezes que fizestes isso a um dos menores de meus irmãos, foi a mim que o fizestes!’ 41Depois o Rei dirá aos que estiverem à sua esquerda: ‘Afastai-vos de mim, malditos! Ide para o fogo eterno, preparado para o diabo e para os seus anjos. 42Pois eu estava com fome e não me destes de comer; eu estava com sede e não me destes de beber; 43eu era estrangeiro e não me recebestes em casa; eu estava nu e não me vestistes; eu estava doente e na prisão e não fostes me visitar’. 44E responderão também eles: ‘Senhor, quando foi que te vimos com fome ou com sede, como estrangeiro ou nu, doente ou preso, e não te servimos?’ 45Então o Rei lhes responderá: ‘Em verdade eu vos digo, todas as vezes que não fizestes isso a um desses pequeninos, foi a mim que não o fizestes!’ 46Portanto, estes irão para o castigo eterno, enquanto os justos irão para a vida eterna”. – Palavra da salvação.

O evangelho do domingo de Cristo Rei é a conclusão do discurso escatológico de Mateus. Ele descreve com imagens solenes a vinda de Jesus, Rei e Messias. Segundo esse relato, o julgamento final não se concentrará na realização de grandes e excepcionais obras, mas se dará com base na prática ou não das obras de misericórdia corporal elencadas. Mateus herdou os termos “castigo eterno” e “vida eterna” da literatura apocalíptica. Os herdeiros do Reino de Deus serão os que praticaram a justiça em favor dos pequeninos, por defenderem os valores do evangelho. Servindo-os, estaremos servindo o próprio Cristo, pois Jesus se identifica com cada um deles.

The Sunday Gospel of Christ the King is the conclusion of Matthew's eschatological speech. He describes with solemn images the coming of Jesus, King and Messiah. According to this report, the final judgment will not focus on the execution of great and exceptional works, but will be based on the practice or not of the listed works of corporal mercy. Matthew inherited the terms "eternal punishment" and "eternal life" from apocalyptic literature.
