Mestre, o que devo fazer de bom para possuir a vida eterna?

Master, what should I do good to possess eternal life?

Consultado por um jovem sobre o que fazer em vista de “entrar para a vida”, expressão equivalente a herdar a vida eterna, ser salvo, entrar no Reino dos Céus, Jesus responde: “Pratique os mandamentos”. O jovem já faz isso, mas acredita que deve fazer algo mais: “O que me falta ainda?” Jesus o estimula propondo-lhe que vá, venda todos os seus bens, e doe aos pobres; depois, venha para segui-lo. Seria estar totalmente disponível para o Reino dos Céus. Esse passo, o jovem não consegue dar. Ele não é capaz de se desfazer de seus bens, então vai embora triste, “porque tinha muitos bens”.

Consulted by a young man about what to do in view of "entering into life", an expression equivalent to inheriting eternal life, being saved, entering the Kingdom of Heaven, Jesus replies: "Practice the commandments." The young man already does, but he believes he must do something else: "What do I still lack?" Jesus encourages him by proposing that he go, sell all his possessions, and donate to the poor; Then come to follow him. It would be fully available to the Kingdom of heaven. That step, the young man can not give. He's not able to dispose of his possessions, so he goes away sad, "because he had many possessions."

Leitura do livro dos Juízes 2,11-19 – Naqueles dias, 11os filhos de Israel fizeram o que desagrada ao Senhor, servindo a deuses cananeus. 12Abandonaram o Senhor, o Deus de seus pais, que os havia tirado do Egito, e seguiram outros deuses dos povos que em torno deles habitavam, e os adoraram, provocando assim a ira do Senhor. 13Afastaram-se do Senhor para servir a Baal e a Astarte. 14Por isso, acendeu-se contra Israel a ira do Senhor, que os entregou nas mãos dos salteadores, que os saqueavam, e os vendeu aos inimigos que habitavam nas redondezas. E eles não puderam resistir aos seus adversários. 15Em tudo o que desejassem empreender, a mão do Senhor estava contra eles para sua desgraça, como lhes havia dito e jurado. A sua aflição era extrema. 16Então, o Senhor mandou-lhes juízes que os livrassem das mãos dos saqueadores. 17Eles, porém, nem aos seus juízes quiseram ouvir e continuavam a prostituir-se com outros deuses, adorando-os. Depressa se afastaram do caminho seguido por seus pais, que haviam obedecido aos mandamentos do Senhor; não procederam como eles. 18Sempre que o Senhor lhes mandava juízes, o Senhor estava com o juiz e os livrava das mãos dos inimigos enquanto o juiz vivia, porque o Senhor se deixava comover pelos gemidos dos aflitos. 19Mas, quando o juiz morria, voltavam a cair e portavam-se pior que seus pais, seguindo outros deuses, servindo-os e adorando-os. Não desistiram de suas obras perversas nem da sua conduta obstinada. – Palavra do Senhor.

Reading of the Book of Judges 2.11-19 – In those days, the 11th children of Israel did what displeases the Lord by serving the Canaanus gods. 12 They Abandoned the Lord, the god of their fathers, who had taken them from Egypt, and followed other gods of the peoples who dwelled around them, and worned them, thus provoking the wrath of the Lord. 13They Drifted from the Lord to serve Baal and Astarte. 14Therefore the Wrath of the Lord was ignited against Israel, which delivered them into the hands of the robbers, who looted them, and sold them to the enemies who dwelled in the vicinity. And they couldn't resist their opponents. 15In all that they wished to undertake, the hand of the Lord was against them for their disgrace, as they had said and sworn. His affliction was extreme. 16Then The Lord sent them judges to rid them of the hands of the looters. 17They, however, neither to their judges wanted to hear and continued to prostitute themselves with other gods, adoring them. They soon drifted away from the path followed by their fathers, who had obeyed the Lord's commandments; They did not proceed as they did. 18Whenever The Lord sent them judges, the Lord was with the judge and freed them from the hands of the enemies while the judge lived, because the Lord would let himself be moved by the groans of the afflicted. 19But when the judge died, they returned to fall and behaved worse than their fathers, following other gods, serving them, and adoring them. Lembrai-vos de nós, ó Senhor, / segundo o amor para com vosso povo! – Não quiseram suprimir aqueles povos / que o Senhor tinha mandado exterminar; / misturaram-se, então, com os pagãos / e aprenderam seus costumes depravados. – Aos ídolos pagãos prestaram culto, / que se tornaram armadilha para eles; / pois imolaram até mesmo os próprios filhos, / sacrificaram suas filhas aos demônios. – Contaminaram-se com suas próprias obras, / prostituíram-se em crimes incontáveis. / Acendeu-se a ira de Deus contra o seu povo, / e o Senhor abominou a sua herança. – Quantas vezes o Senhor os libertou! / Eles, porém, por malvadez o provocavam. / Mas o Senhor tinha piedade do seu povo / quando ouvia o seu grito na aflição.

Um só é o bom. Se tu queres entrar na vida, observa os mandamentos”. 18O homem perguntou: “Quais mandamentos?” Jesus respondeu: “Não matarás, não cometerás adultério, não roubarás, não levantarás falso testemunho, 19honra teu pai e tua mãe e ama teu próximo como a ti mesmo”. 20O jovem disse a Jesus: “Tenho observado todas essas coisas. O que ainda me falta?” 21Jesus respondeu: “Se tu queres ser perfeito, vai, vende tudo o que tens, dá o dinheiro aos pobres e terás um tesouro no céu. Depois, vem e segue-me”. 22Quando ouviu isso, o jovem foi embora cheio de tristeza, porque era muito rico. – Palavra da salvação.
