‘The kingdom of heaven is at hand’.

(Mc 1,15) – Proclamação do evangelho de Jesus Cristo segundo Mateus 9,36-10,8 – Naquele tempo, 36vendo Jesus as multidões, compadeceu-se delas, porque estavam cansadas e abatidas como ovelhas que não têm pastor. Então disse a seus discípulos: 37“A messe é grande, mas os trabalhadores são poucos. 38Pedi, pois, ao dono da messe que envie trabalhadores para a sua colheita!” 10,1Jesus chamou os doze discípulos e deu-lhes poder para expulsarem os espíritos maus e para curarem todo tipo de doença e enfermidade. 2Estes são os nomes dos doze apóstolos: primeiro, Simão, chamado Pedro, e André, seu irmão; Tiago, filho de Zebedeu, e seu irmão João; 3Filipe e Bartolomeu; Tomé e Mateus, o cobrador de impostos; Tiago, filho de Alfeu, e Tadeu; 4Simão, o zelota, e Judas Iscariotes, que foi o traidor de Jesus. 5Jesus enviou esses doze com as seguintes recomendações: “Não deveis ir aonde moram os pagãos nem entrar nas cidades dos samaritanos! 6Ide, antes, às ovelhas perdidas da casa de Israel! 7Em vosso caminho, anunciai: ‘O reino dos céus está próximo’. 8Curai os doentes, ressuscitai os mortos, purificai os leprosos, expulsai os demônios. De graça recebestes, de graça deveis dar!” – Palavra da salvação.

Reflexão
Jesus ressalta a necessidade de haver mais servidores e, por isso, chama alguns que o auxiliem na missão, os apóstolos. Estes devem acompanhar o Mestre e aprender com ele. São responsáveis por anunciar o Reino dos Céus, que exige dignidade para todas as pessoas. O fiel seguidor de Jesus não pode ficar indiferente à dor do irmão e da irmã que encontra ao longo do dia. O cristão é convidado a se compadecer diante da miséria, que provoca tantos males e enviados por Jesus recebem a “autoridade” para curar os doentes, ressuscitar os mortos, purificar os leprosos, expulsar os demônios.
Reflection
Jesus emphasizes the need for more servants and, for this reason, he calls some who help him in the mission, the apostles. These must accompany the Master and learn from him. They are responsible for announcing the Kingdom of Heaven, which demands dignity for all people. The faithful follower of Jesus cannot remain indifferent to the pain of the brother and sister he encounters throughout the day. The Christian is invited to sympathize in the face of misery, which causes so many ills and sent by Jesus, they receive the “authority” to heal the sick, raise the dead, purify the lepers, expel the demons.
