Após um período de ensino, Jesus envia os apóstolos em missão. Dá-lhes poder e autoridade. Objetivamente, o que deverão fazer? Anunciar o Reino de Deus, isto é, que Jesus está presente e traz seu projeto de vida para todos. Além disso, Jesus lhes dá o poder de curar as doenças. É um projeto inédito, Jesus e seus apóstolos são pregoeiros de uma prática do amor, da justiça e da fraternidade. Ao enviar seus apóstolos, Jesus prevê conflitos; porque nem todos estão abertos para acolher o Reino de Deus e dele fazer parte.

Leitura do livro de Esdras 9,5-9 – 5Na hora da oblação da tarde, eu, Esdras, levantei-me da minha prostração. E, com as vestes e o manto rasgados, caí de joelhos, estendi as mãos para o Senhor, meu Deus. 6E disse: “Meu Deus, estou coberto de vergonha e confusão ao levantar a minha face para ti, porque nossas iniquidades multiplicaram-se acima de nossas cabeças e nossas faltas se acumularam até o céu. 7Desde os tempos de nossos pais até este dia, uma grande culpa pesa sobre nós: por causa de nossas iniquidades, nós, nossos reis e nossos sacerdotes, fomos entregues às mãos dos reis estrangeiros, à espada, ao cativeiro, à pilhagem e à vergonha, como acontece ainda hoje. 8Mas agora, por um breve instante, o Senhor nosso Deus concedeu-nos a graça de preservar dentre nós um resto e de permitir que nos fixemos em seu lugar santo. Assim o nosso Deus deu brilho aos nossos olhos e concedeu-nos um pouco de vida no meio de nossa servidão. 9Pois éramos escravos, mas em nossa servidão o nosso Deus não nos abandonou. Antes, conseguiu para nós o favor dos reis da Pérsia, deu-nos bastante vida para podermos reconstruir o templo do nosso Deus e restaurar suas ruínas e concedeu-nos um abrigo seguro em Judá e em Jerusalém”. – Palavra do Senhor.
