Não penseis que vim abolir a lei e os profetas.

Glória a Cristo, Palavra eterna do Pai, que é amor! Senhor, tuas palavras são espírito, são vida; / só tu tens palavras de vida eterna! Não vim para abolir, mas para dar-lhes pleno cumprimento. 18Em verdade eu vos digo, antes que o céu e a terra deixem de existir, nem uma só letra ou vírgula serão tiradas da lei, sem que tudo se cumpra. 19Portanto, quem desobedecer a um só desses mandamentos, por menor que seja, e ensinar os outros a fazerem o mesmo será considerado o menor no reino dos céus. Porém quem os praticar e ensinar será considerado grande no reino dos céus”. – Palavra da salvação.

Reflection
Was Jesus proposing some new Law, contrary to the Law of Moses? No. Jesus comes to respect and fully comply with the Law and the Prophets, that is, the Holy Scriptures. Not the deformed and decadent law that prevailed in Jesus' time and which he sought to correct, but the true Law, the Law that the Prophets have always remembered and taught. So Jesus' disciples could rest easy: he did not come to eliminate the Scriptures; came to fulfill and teach the Father's will.

Estaria Jesus propondo alguma nova Lei, contrária à Lei de Moisés? Não. Jesus vem para respeitar e levar a pleno cumprimento a Lei e os Profetas, isto é, as Escrituras Sagradas. Não a lei deformada e decadente que predominava na época de Jesus e que ele procurava corrigir, mas a verdadeira Lei, a Lei que os Profetas sempre lembraram e ensinaram. Então os discípulos de Jesus podiam ficar tranquilos: ele não veio para eliminar as Escrituras; veio para cumprir e ensinar a vontade do Pai.
